Pyrford was sitting in his chair as students came in. Some noticed him while others just passed by, too absorbed in their conversations or whatever thoughts were going through their heads. He grinned at them all. They looked like a bright bunch who were eager and willing to learn. He hoped he'd do them justice. History really was interesting if it was told in the right way.
He stood when he saw that everyone was present, leaning on his axe as always, and opened his mouth to say something to the effect of "Good morning" or some equally mundane, but totally acceptable way to begin class when the shouts of Captain Aino resonated ("It never ceases to amaze me how well that girl's voice carries") in the confines of the classroom. Pyrford stuck his head out the door to see if there was anyone there, but it looked like the other teachers were handling the stragglers. He shut the door and returned to his seat, propping his elbows on his desk and folding his hands together.
An eerie silence took the place of the loudspeaker as lockdown was completed. Pyrford chuckled, "A lockdown, eh? Everyone take it easy, we'll start our class after everything's tranquil again." Everyone seemed to have handled everything pretty well, even those who had been surprised at first.
Then the Luggage burst into the room and sat down near a small boy. He raised an eyebrow, eyes twinkling with amusement. "I'd suggest putting that on a leash, but considering what it did to that door I guess that wouldn't work out too well."
He looked over his class. Who knew how long this thing would last? He pulled a deck of cards out of his desk. It never hurt to be prepared. "Anyone up for a game?"
"Mr. Pyrford, what's code three?" a student asked.
"Oh, don't worry. It just something that happens every so often. Actually, I can only remember it happening once, but that's beside the point. As long as YUME has its security team there's nothing to worry about, so we might as well relax. Want to place some money on this deal?" |
