Leena turned in a slow circle taking in all the glowing lights above. She dropped her bag and hugged herself. "it's beautiful" she whispered.
She felt warm and comfy looking at the stars above. She drifted back in time for a moment, flashes of memory came to her as she spun slowly taking in the artificial view.
Moving from city to city and country to country as a kid had been rough. A totally different place, a new home, no friends, but always having the same sky to watch over her at night. When her parents died, Leena had taken many walks at night and had found comfort in a time when so much was changing. The sky had continued to be her comfort and still point, a constant in chaos all through her teen years, bouncing from home to home when no one wanted her. And now it's here again, like a familiar friend in a whole new stage of her life.
Leena lay down on the floor of the observatory and stared at the ceiling with it's artificial stars.
"They're the one thing that we all have in common, you know." she said softly to no one in particular.
"No matter where we live, where we grew up, everyone had a night sky. Some places had a night sky all day, but they still had stars." Leena just talked. She had no idea why she was thinking this or speaking her thoughts aloud but she couldn't keep quiet. She just stared at the stars and said what came to her mind.
She looked over toward Duo once she realized that she was babbling. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to run on like that." |
