Andrew was going to answer Floogster, when he noticed a student sneaking out. "One moment, please,' he said before moving as if to follow her and stop her. Then Yorick returned, a little t-ed off and still waving that fan of hers. Andrew opened his mouth to tell her of Trinity's disappearance, but since she hadn't noticed yet he kept his mouth shut. No need to sound like a prison warden.
Yorick raised her eyes to the heavens in a gesture which clearly meant, "Why do I bother?" and then she sighed to fully express her desperation. "I don't suppose any of you understood that, did you?" she asked of all the students who were still sitting there, some with expressions of "I'm listening, I'm really listening...while I think of something /completely/ different" plastered on their faces so firmly that it was almost comical, if it hadn't insulted her so. She gathered her skirts and sat down in the chair behind her desk. She looked very ill at ease in the plushy modern day upholstery, but she tried admirably to disguise that fact.
Andrew almost felt sorry for her, but considering how she had treated the class he didn't, not really. He could respect her strong sense of discipline, however, but he had to agree that no, they hadn't learned anything.
"Well..." said Yorick, trying to regain her previous control over the class and to launch headlong into "Act 2" after that brief intermission. Then, she surprised them all.
"I think that's enough for today. You're all dismissed."
"But, Lady Yorick, class doesn't finish until..."
She nodded, but didn't smile as she said, "I know. You're dismissed."
Andrew took it all in stride, returning to his previous conversation with Floogster. "I'll help you sometime if you find it difficult," he offered. Darkwind flapped up to him, out of wherever he had been lurking during the duration of the class, and landed on the arm Andrew made convenient for him.
::I though you were only going to be here for the beginning of the class?::
::Heh, so thought I, but things change::
"Darkwind, do you know where Luggage went?" he asked aloud, keeping in mind that some people were wary of mind communication between human and familiar.
Andrew felt Darkwind's sigh as he thought back to him, ::You always make things so difficult. Now /I'm/ the one who looks like a fool...like a teddy bear or something::
::Hardly, more like a turkey::
::Ha ha ha:: the sarcasm which accompanied that thought was nearly enough to mask the actual words. ::I saw it leave sometime earlier, around the time the fight was in the hallway::
He relayed what Darkwind had said, just what he'd seen of the Luggage, that is and then asked of Floogster, "Since we have some extra time do you want to go and look for it?" |
