Yorick coughed and, still bristling from the heated exchange between herself and Kythra, pulled out a fan and waved it in front of her face a few times before continuing with her lesson. She had hoped the cough would draw attention towards her, but it seemed a few people were still allowing their minds to wander. "Now you've seen how improper manners can take away from your education, haven't you?" It was said as more of a rhetorical question and Yorick hadn't expected an answer.
"It's time for your ethical education to begin. After so much time spent bashing each other over the head like so many barbarians /I/ am going to civilise you! We'll start by learning proper greetings." Her eyes looked over the class and settled upon a student in the front row, one of the heads of the student administration. "Master Phillips, come to the front and demonstrate how one should properly greet a lady, such as myself."
Andrew blinked, for a moment looking surprised at having been chosen (in fact, he had been pondering who had been in the right between Kythra and Yorick), but then, without further hesitation, he stood and approached the ethics teacher. This was more in his element than anything else could have been, unless she had been an Elder from k'Vala. The Court at Valdemar had a very similar system and it was the ethics of this period of time which he had been briefed on before arriving at YUME> He didn't even have time to think of whether or not this would negatively affect the opinions his classmates had of him before he acted. He bowed his head, his right arm crossing over his chest so that his hand rested on his heart.
Yorick proffered her hand, watching his movements with a critical eye, and Andrew dropped to one knee, taking his teacher's hand in the same movement with the hand which had been on his heart. He raised it to his lips and murmured "By your leave, Lady Yorick" before lightly kissing the pale skin he found there. Some people might have wondered why Andrew didn't blush as he usually did, but to him this was what he had been trained to do and nothing more than that.
"Not quite,' she said primly, but with so little edge that it might have been considered a compliment, coming from her, 'You may return to your seat."
When he had done so Yorick continued, "In my class I am not going to teach you, but correct your mistakes. I am going to tell you what to do and you shall do it, perfectly if possible, and awkwardly if you must, but you /shall/ do it. Now, I want you to practice that and I (though you hardly deserve the privilege) will evaluate and correct your mistakes individually." She waved her hand, still holding the fan in the other, in a flippant motion which hardly matched the loud "GO!" with which she ordered the class to obey.
As said class was scrambling to do as told the sound of an explosion reached Yorick's ears. She shrieked and clutched at her heart, eyes wide for a moment before fear was replaced by an indignant expression. "Well, I /never/!" she gasped, sending a warning glance towards all students looking her way to warn them to behave, and then stepped into the hallway. Even with the commotion of the fight the ethic's teacher's voice was heard shouting (though even with the increased volume she made sure it was the shout of a proper lady) "Whatever is the meaning of this?! I am teaching a class and would appreciate it if you would take this elsewhere!" |
