OOC: Well, I finally decided to write a post for my new character. He's *still* tentative and "in production" so this is just to test the waters, I guess? Anyway, this takes place sometime in the past.
IC:
Skyshadow k'Leshya was sitting in the tall grass under a tree in the Pelagirs. He'd been searching for miles into the woods on the excuse of finding herbs for the Healer and now he was just content to sit there and watch the sunlight shifting on the forest floor. It was quiet, but every now and then the call of some bird would break the silence and let him know he wasn't alone. The soft weight behind him was a constant reminder that he wasn't alone. That and the ever present feeling of someone else in his mind. He closed his eyes and reached behind him to scratch the mass of midnight black fur. A low rumble of pleasure sounded from the familiar in response to this.
He opened his eyes and surveyed his surroundings. It was unusual of the Pelagirs to be so quiet. It was easy to forget at this moment that they were filled with dangers both seen and unseen. Tall trees that had existed for centuries spread their foliage overhead and yet the underbrush was still dense. The whole area seemed to shimmer magically most days, but now it seemed so much like a normal forest. Just trees and nature and a white horse. He closed his eyes again.
There were no white horses in the Pelagirs. The Tayledras didn't own any horses, let alone white ones.
He prodded Darkwind gently to alert him and wondered at the back of his mind why the kyree hadn't responded to the horse sooner. He opened his eyes again, but the vision hadn't gone away; instead it drew nearer. A handsome blue-eyed horse decked out in blue-and-silver riding gear standing in front of him, brilliant between the shadows of the trees. And he was heading straight towards him. There was purpose in every step he took. He had no rider.
And-was he looking at /him/?
Everyone knew what blue-eyed white horse was. Even someone who had travelled from place to place for as long as he could remember. This was a Companion, and alone like this with no urgency in his demeanour, he hadn't /lost/ his Herald, nor was his Herald in trouble. No, he was Searching.
A new Herald. A Herald-trainee to whom he would be bonded for the rest of both their lives. The hush in the forest seemed to deepen. The soft chiming of bridge bells and the matching overtones of the Companion's deliberate steps seemed to fill that silence.
Skyshadow froze, one hand still entwined in Darkwind's fur. The white horse continued to look straight forward. There was only one person of reasonable age for him to Choose. Of course, Companion's had been known to Choose full adults in the past, but he was a long way from the nearest settlement.
The horse was close now and Skyshadow stood, instinctively. Behind him Darkwind also rose, standing at the Tayledras' side, a comforting pressure on his leg.
The rest of the world vanished around him as he fell into those twin pools of sapphire. He took entranced steps towards him and stopped just a step away from the Companion's nose, reaching slowly towards him. The Companion took matters into his own hands and craned his neck forward as his bridle bells chimed, and putting his nose in his hand. They stood there motionless for a moment...
/You are to seek your destiny/
Still at Skyshadow's side Darkwind rumbled in agreement.
OOC: If anyone's read Owlsight, you'd know that I basically copied and pasted a whole slew of paragraphs. *sweatdrop* Yes, I know, plagiarising...but I *did* alter it slightly. Eh heh heh, don't sue me Lackey-sama p-q
Feedback would be appreciated ^^; |
