Yuka stood up, planning to pace the length of the classroom in a teacher-like manner before she mentally said "Oh, screw it!" and sat down. There was no reason why she couldn't be lazy. All of her *students* were sitting, so why shouldn't she?
"Good day, hello, or whatever your preferred greeting is. Welcome to the class where you will spend most of your time this year. If you're not in Gunsmithing then you shouldn't be here...so scat!"
Somewhere off the side a sheepish student got up and snuck out of the room, face flushed with embarrassment.
/Figures. There's always at least one, even when I was in school./
"Now, as I was saying...well, I guess I wasn't saying this since I hadn't gotten there yet, but I'm sure you all get the point, right?" She smiled and leaned back in her chair as she seemed fond of doing today, which probably wasn't good for her posture if she'd actually thought about it. "My family name is Teal-Lavoisier. Anyone who's taken chemistry should know who I'm related to then, right? I mean, distantly, but that's still my claim to fame. Too bad that genious didn't get carried through the generations...but my given name is Yuka. Call me either one of those, but I'm not married so I don't want anyone to start calling me "Mrs. Lavoisier" or "Mrs. Teal" or something like that; that's my mother. If you have any questions during the lesson feel free to ask. I'm sure you all have names too, but I refuse to be party to one of those idiotic 'get to know you' exercises and I'll pick them up eventually, even if only by marking your papers. And yes, you heard me right. Not only will we be applying our knowledge, but you'll also have to prove to me in written exercises that you're following everything.
The course will follow everything and anything what'll blow something up or shoot something down. You've all got a bit of pyromaniac in you and I intend to bring that out," she added with a wink.
Landing the chair back on all four feet she leaned over her desk with her elbows resting on the desk. "Is school boring enough for you yet? It damn well should be! That's why you're here, isn't it? To be bored. Nevermind, that's just my bias and you'll get enough of my b.s. before the year's done. That's a guarantee AND a threat. Those of you who think this will be an easy class are wrong. Those of you who think that I can't fail you are wrong. Those of you who think that anyone can succeed in this class if they listen closely and follow instructions are wrong. Gunsmithing requires some raw talent, not just picking up a firearm and shooting or following a diagram to construct a bomb. You need intuition and empathy as well as practicality and cleverness. If at any point you want to leave to another Major you're welcome to, but I want you to talk to me first." By the time she'd finished this warning her voice and expression had sobered considerably, but then she grinned again.
"I think I've done quite enough talking now, so it's time to start your first 'test'." This year's class was more serious than most and there weren't quite as many satisfying gasps at the mention of the test. "I want you to talk amongst yourselves. I'll sit here and watch and I'll stop you when I've had enough of your nattering, but for now I want you to talk to each other. The topic's your choice, but remember that you ARE being marked."
Her eyes raked the faces of those sitting in front of her, waiting for them to react to her instructions.
OOC: Sorry this took so long to get written ^^; |
