Audrey was definitely better in the field of telekinesis than any other area of psionics, but she had received the telepathic message loud and clear. Admittedly, the best she could do with telepathy was send, receive, and defend against it; but it was there none-the-less. With that, she walked to the "lower right" hand corner. There was only one other person there at the moment, for obvious reasons. She knew that it's hard to master more than one aspect of psionics, but Audrey was determined to get the telepathy part of it down. At the moment, the only person that was there was a person who had challenged her the last year. Some kid named ... Erik? She hoped he wouldn't make a scene. Apparently, the other two kids who had fought her last year had dropped out. She recalled that Erik had actually been something of a challenge to defeat.
"Well well," Erik smirked, "You weren't on the mixed response last year."
Audrey looked at Erik's slim face. The arrogant person was lower-class, but that gave Audrey no reason to hate him. She didn't particularly like him, for a good reason; Erik didn't like her...
A thought struck Audrey: He couldn't know about the rat, could he? But, Audrey hadn't exactly been in the state of mind to remember who had been there at that time.
"You're gonna get it this year, Audrey," Erik interrupted her thoughts.
Telekinesis, Audrey remembered, was the thing Erik had been mastering last year. What was he going to work on this year?
"Telepathy," Erik said, "Just like you. I've already been working on it during the summer while you were wasting time in real estate."
Audrey had been so engrossed in her thoughts, she hadn't noticed Erik trespassing into her mind. With a mental shove, she sent Erik out of her mind. Erik jerked back, but recovered quickly. Anybody less skilled would have been bowled over by the mental backlash. Looks like he has improved.
"Next time, Audrey. Next time," Erik said.
Audrey wished somebody else would come into the mixed talents corner, "What do you want?" Audrey demanded.
"You'll see," Erik said in a sly voice.
I have no doubt about that, Audrey thought. This time she made sure to keep her mental defenses up. Audrey refused to continue conversing with Erik, and just waited. Erik probed mentally, but Audrey was too focused now to be caught off guard. |
