Arthur and Sheila's little corner of the universe

Yorkshire

The Laurel Inn, Robin Hoods Bay, near Whitby This used to be our favorite pub, but on recent visits it has been populated by loud boorish types.

It must be a contender for Yorkshires prettiest pub though!

Crooked Billet, Wakefield road ( b1217 )  near Towton. 30,000 men lost their lives near here, on Palm Sunday 1461 Yorkshire and Lancashire did battle ( Yorkshire won of course ).This battle is commemorated twice yearly at Elland Road ( Leeds ) and Old Trafford ( Manchester ). The Inns leaflets claim the Crooked Billet was used as the Yorkist H.Q. and the Earl of Warwick orLord Fauconberg stayed here. A likely story if you ask me! The Inn also claims to be the home of Yorkshires largest

Yorkshire puddings! but be warned, if you can't eat it all the sign on the wall warns that you are not allowed to share your lunch! A crying shame to have to chuck away good food!

Tan Hill Inn, Great Britains highest Inn at 1,732 feet above sea level.

For all the info on Tan Hill visit The Tan Hill website.

All we need to say is, it is well worth the effort to get to this remote Inn.
