Arthur and Sheila's little corner of the universe
The Rolling Stones
Wembley Stadium, England 1982

It's June 1982 and we've traveled from Leeds, Yorkshire to a very wet Wembley stadium.

It's The first time my girlfriend of five years, Sheila and her daughter Mandy are to see the Stones, Mandy's little brother Nigel has been left at home as he's not a Stones fan!!!!!. We've booked a hotel in London for the night so we won't have any problems if the show finishes late. This seems the height of decadence to me as I'm used to dossing down anywhere I can to save a few quid.
Left to right...... Arthur (me) and Sheila. Mandy and me again. Pleased to meet you!

The time finally arrives and the Stones explode onto the stage singing Under my thumb, Sheila immediately bursts into tears at the unfolding spectacle as all hell seems to break loose. I calmly take my first ever photo of the Stones with a very cheap 110 cartridge camera held at arms length above my head. Well you wouldn't take an expensive one to a Stones gig would you!

I persuade the girls to squeeze nearer to the stage and eventually we are rewarded with a close up of Mick and Ronnie Sheila can hardly see now through her tears of emotion as she gets her first close encounter with Mick.

More idol worshipers try to clamber onto the stage.
As the concert ends and we make our way to the exits an announcement is flashed up on the Wembley scoreboard, it reads..................
Rolling Stones to play Roundhay Park, LEEDS, July 1982
We can't believe our luck, Roundhay park is about 5 miles from our home!
Visit our Roundhay page where the photo's get better, the weather gets better, the Stones get better and I propose to Sheila ( bring your hanky )
