How does this look on an Apple? I did a makeover for you. x

On the 28th June 1952, I was dragged screaming into this world that I didn’t want anything to do with. Nor did it want anything to do with me! Bollox to it, we were just going to have to put up with each other!

We Live at 13 Providence Avenue, Woodhouse, Leeds.

            Earliest memories ...

Whilst laying in my pram on a glorious summer day, I had a nice warm crap! Which for a change was left with me for quite some time. Eventually someone other than my usual nappy changer came to relieve me of the nice warm goo. She thought I couldn't understand, but she told me all about what was happening on this tragic day... Apparently my brother (whatever one of them is) has taken the dog (Lady) and has run away to live on Woodhouse Ridge as he can't bear to share his toys or his parents affections with his new little brother (whoever that is) so everybody has gone to search for him. Eventually he's found and everybody promises him that they will never neglect him again, nor will he have to share anything whatsoever with anybody ever again.

However, when I'm about two my brother Alan (5 years the older) does share his old tricycle with me. He pushes me up and down the street for what seems ages, when he sees how much I'm enjoying myself he breaks off the left hand rear wheel... despite my pleadings to everyone it never gets repaired!

Potty time ..... The most important piece of equipment in our house seems to be the potty! If I have a stomach ache I'm plonked on the potty. If I have a runny nose I'm plonked on the potty. If I cry I'm plonked on the potty. Before bedtime I'm plonked on the potty. When we get up I'm... I seem to spend a hell of a long time on the potty, the only amusement I get is by peeing on the floor and rolling my toy cars through the liquid and making tram lines.

However there are some occasions when I don't need the potty... Whilst I'm happily playing with the silver fish under the linoleum or an empty match box, I sometimes get the urge to pee or poo. Now of course there is no way I'm going to ask for the potty as I've probably been on it long enough already, so I suppress the urge as long as I can with disastrous consequences. Then of course, I'm back on the potty!

One evening A few days later a frantic Marian pleads with me to catch a mouse running wild in their house (her parents are out). I deal with the mouse and Marian falls in love with me.

I left school for big wide world of work... Sometime in 1967 I start work for Dennis Atkinsons, Electricians. We rewire Tetley's pubs, service beer pumps, and do various other large and small jobs. Jobs I was involved in :- Rewiring The Peel, The Coberg, a large Perspex factory in East End Park, Installing extractor fans in the Royal Park and Newlands pubs, rewiring a bank in Oulton, installed outside lighting for The Fford Grene (which later caught fire, oops sorry) etc etc. Sounds great eh? well no! The men I worked with we're total arseholes and by Christmas I would refuse to get out of bed in the morning. End of first job.

On Saturday April 13th 1968,  Mick Duffy, Patrick Bird and myself were swirling around Marshalls  Waltzers on Woodhouse Feast (fair) when my eyes met the deep blue eyes of Mavis...... Love at first sight!

Early in '68 I started working for Oldham Signs Ltd, East End Park. Initially restoring and repainting neon tubes, then going out with a fitter to fit neon tubes and signs all over Yorkshire (favourite job). Unfortunately they had other ideas... The old chap who gassed and flashed in the neon tubes was about to retire, and as I had particular gift for this job they shoved me in his electrical cage and expected me to stay there. Sacked again!

We move to 10 Woodbridge Road, off Queenswood Drive, Leeds.

In September Mavis and I tearfully part, For a long time I just don't realise that I'm the wrong religion!

On Tuesday 19th of November 1968 I met my first wife to be, Lorraine Longbottom / Bibby at the Rollerena, Kirkstall Road Leeds.

Next Job (November)... Benjamin Simons & sons cutting cloth, WHY? anyhow I managed to stay nearly a year in a factory where women were women and so were the men!

(69)

September (ish) Leave Benjamin Simons for Audio Factors at Armley, which later moves to Henconner Lane, Bramley. We supply audio products to the R.S.C. Chain shops and also do mail order.

I meet lots of nice people, most of their names I can't remember but here's a few - Derek Cartilage, Dave Beckwith, Paul Butterfield,  Don Waters, Colin Hegarty, Steve Winterburn, Graham Sendall, Cyril ?, George ? Etc... I'm soon moved from labouring to inspection working with Derek Cartilage and Cyril ? We inspect sheets of laminated glass for faults, any faulty sheets found are passed onto Paul Butterfield for reclamation.
