What is a Police Officer
He is the man that as a child that is lost is comfort.
He is a psychologist.
He is a marriage counselor.
A police officer wears many hats for each call he answers.
He is the man when we see others doing wrong are fast to say "Where is a Cop when you need one" but when it involves ourselves we think "Don't you have anything better to do".
He is a guardian angel to the weak.
He is a husband, brother, son, and father.
A man that knows each day could be his last day, and yet he still does his job.
A man that is in a thankless position and still sees the rewards of his proffession with each case that he was able to help.
A Police Officer is the United Nations of what we like to call a civilized society.
To me this is the best way I can describe a Police Officer.

 A Dispatcher's Prayer

Dear Lord, help me keep safe those who depend on me.
Give me healthy ears,
for they are my link with those who need me.
Keep my mind sharp and alert,
        my fingers quick and nimble.
Grant that I never forget
how to do ten things at once, and do them all equally well.

          Bless me with patience Lord.
Patience to deal with the public,
with the officers,
with the boss,
and with everyone else who makes me want to grit my teeth and yell.

            Give me nerves of steel,
that I may listen to a mother screaming
for her child to live, the man with a gun,
or an officer yelling for backup,
and not give way to panic.

         Grant me empathy,
that I may help the battered wife, the rape victim,
the abused child, and not cause them more pain than they already have.

          God, give me the ability
to learn what I need, to remember it quickly,
and give me the wisdom to use the knowledge properly.

        Bless my family Lord,
for they will have to make sacrifices to shift work,
overtime, canceled plans and times when I just can't take on one more thing.
Help them understand the missed ball games, school programs and dinners for two.

              Lord, give me courage.
Courage to persevere when I feel
              undervalued, unappreciated, overworked and unrecognized.
Courage to keep trying when I feel in my heart it's hopeless.

Last of all Lord, help me to never forget
why I chose this job in the first place,
to never lose sight of what is important
in the midst of the stress.
Help me to remember that I make a difference,
however small it may seem some days, and that I matter.

I am a dispatcher, Lord, grant me peace.

 The Correctional Officer's Prayer

           Lord, I ask for courage...
Courage to face and conquer my own fears.
Courage to take me where others will not go

             I ask for strength...
Strength of body to protect others
Strength of spirit to lead others.

            I ask for dedication...
Dedication to my job, to do it well.
Dedication to my community, to keep it safe.

            Give me, Lord, concern
for all those who trust me
and compassion for those who need me.

And please, Lord, through it all .....
be at my side.

The Police Officer's Prayer

Lord, I ask you to be with me
   In a very special way
 As I face the challenges
That come my way each day.

     Please give to me compassion
    For the innocent I see
Help me to protect and serve
        Those who depend on me.

      When duty calls to danger
     I will rely on you
To give me strength and courage
And help to make it through.

And when my shift is over
           Thankful I will be
That you have been the unseen guest
               Walking next to me.

Sheriff's prayer

"Oh, Almighty God,
whose great power and eternal
 wisdom embraces the universe.

Please watch over all our sheriffs.

Protect them in their everyday duties of serving
papers, traffic violations, riots, evictions, domestic
violence, etc.

Give them the strength to accomplish the
difficult task that lie before them.

Give them the wisdom and quick reactions that
will result in the safety of the people in their community.

God, protect these brave men and women and
grant them your Almighty protection
and please unite them safely with their
families after their
duty has ended.

A Police Family's Prayer
Walk with them tonight,
Dear Lord,
along each darkened street...
Walk with them tonight,
Dear Lord,
along their lonely beat...
Keep them happy through the night
and please make sure they are warm and guide
them to a sheltering door in case there comes a time
of storm...
And let them know though they're not here,
my prayers are free from fright...
Because,
Dear Lord,
I,
know so well you're on their beat
tonight.

A Police Woman's Prayer
Oh Lord, I am a woman, not a man.
 I am a Mother not a Dad.
I am a wife with responsibilities that men have never had.
I need understanding from all my peers,
That I am not here to take away a man's job,
I am doing it because I care.
I took the job to enforce the law,
To do my part in the fight to have justice FOR ALL.
To be professional, to make a career, Great Lord.
Help me when they say I should not be here.
I work the long hours, face all the dangers and do the same
Things that they do in law enforcement matters,
Grant me respect like the others, for I am one.
Set aside for every other one, Lord.
Being a policewoman is the most challenging job I have ever done.
Be with me on my daily run, as you are with us all,
I thank you for the ability to enforce the law.
  Amen

"A Police Officer's Wife"
 A special kind of woman.
 A cut above the rest
Always rating her
among the very best.

                       How many goodbyes are shouted
                           without a fond embrace.
As duty steals her man away
for the dangers he must face.

                         How many meals are ruined
                         or tender moments disturbed.
All for the call of loyalty
to which her man must serve.

                           She can push the mower,
or paint a room in need.
How she can stretch a dollar
                              is a miracle indeed.

                           She's a mother, a lover,
                           a chauffeur and a nurse.
A living symbol of the phrase
                            for better or for worse.

                           Rich is the man indeed...

                        That become this Woman's life.

 State Troopers
"With laws and freedoms to preserve,
A trooper takes an oath to serve.
He stands against illegal schemes, Protecting honest people’s dreams.
He is respectful and polite
But still enforces what is right, Insisting justice will prevail
And criminals must always fail.
He never knows what he might face
When starting on a high speed chase.
So even when they are apart,
His loved ones live within his heart.
He is the best that God could send;
He’s doctor, priest and
coach and friend.
He's sometimes tender, often tough --
A trooper’s made of special stuff."

The Motorcycle Officer's Prayer

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat
                                    fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes; you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

The Guardians Of The Night

Trust in me my friend, for I am your comrade.
I will protect you with my last breath
When all others have left you
And the loneliness of night closes in,
I will be at your side.

Together we will conquer all obstacles,
And search out those who wish to do harm to others.
All I ask of you is compassion,
And the caring touch of your hands.

It is for you that I will unselfishly give my life
                        And spend my nights unrested.
                          Although our days together
May be marked by the passing of the seasons
Know that each day by your side is my reward.

                          My days are measured by
The coming and going of your footsteps.
I anticipate them at every opening of the door.
You are the voice of caring when I am ill,
The voice of authority when I have done wrong.

                          Do not chastise me unduly,
For I am your right arm,
                           The sword at your side.
I attempt to do only what you bid of me.
I seek only to please you and remain in your favor.

Together you and I shall experience
A bond only others like us will understand.
                        When outsiders see us together,
Their envy will be measured by their disdain.

I will quietly listen to you
                            And pass no judgment,
Nor will your spoken words be repeated.
                           I will remain ever silent,
                           ever vigilant, ever loyal.

And when our time together is done
And you move on in the world
Remember me with kind thoughts and tales,
For a time we were unbeatable,
                     Nothing passed among us undetected

If we should meet again on another street
I will gladly take up your fight,
I am a Police Working Dog
We are the guardians of the night.
