I am the son of David Fisher, a life-long union switchman with the Elgin, Joliet, and Eastern Railroad, and Margaret Fisher, a switchboard operator at a car dealership.  I am the younger of two sons, and my brother Doug is a fireman.  I was raised with three core values: family, fairness, and hard work.  As a teenager I worked as a golf caddy to help pay for my education.  I attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Economics.

I have been employed as a Police Officer for the Village of Glenwood for four years.  I entered law enforcement to help people and make a positive impact on my community.  I am the President of the Glenwood Police Pension Board and oversee more than $5 million of retiree money, which has grown from less than $4 million when I joined the board three years ago.

I chose to run for the Law Enforcement BA position with the Fighting for the Future Slate because I am disgusted with the decadence and incompetence of the current leadership of 726.  I am tired of my phone calls not being returned.  I am tired of terrible contracts.  I am fed up with BA’s not showing up to or falling asleep during discipline hearings.  I am stunned and amazed by the unbelievably bloated salaries our current 726 leaders receive, but perform almost no work.  I am appalled that the current leadership of 726 thinks it is okay to tell members to “shut up” during union meetings.  I am offended that I am repeatedly told that my needs “do not matter.”

I want to put Local 726 back into the hands of the members and take it from the fat cats who are more concerned with repaying favors to Supervisors and Managers at the expense of our Union Members.  I support the plans of the Fighting for the Future slate to increase the number of scholarships given and to provide a 24-hour/7-day a week BA.  I also believe that my financial education and experience will help correct the financial irregularities which currently exist in 726.

Thank you, and I hope your vision for the future of 726 is similar to mine and the Fighting for the Future Slate.

    Sincerely,

         Daniel Fisher
