3. YOUR
CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS
We from FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE SLATE understand that there are many entities
that make up our Union. All of our contracts are different. For example the
City of Chicago, CTA, IDOT, Tollway, Cook County Highway, Oak Forest Public
Works, Midlothian Police, Calumet City Dispatchers, Oak Forest Hospital, Palos
Heights City Public Works, Brookfield Zoo, Cook County Forest Preserves, UIC
just to name a few. The present Executive Board’s practice has been
not to involve you as Members in your negotiations of your contracts. Our
Slate will involve you in every aspect of your contract. One way is by letting
you pick Delegates from each of your yards to represent you and your concerns,
issues, needs and wants. After getting a proposal together for you, we will
then have your Delegates come back to you and explain it, set up a contract
meeting and vote on it. After negotiations with Management we will then get
all the Delegates together, supply them with copies of what was proposed for
your contract and then have another contract meeting to vote on. We do not
care if it takes us one meeting or 50 with our Members to negotiate a contract
that you want and that is best for you and for our membership. In doing this
you will be assured that your voices will be heard. We will also hire the
best Labor Attorney that knows how to negotiate contracts not like our present
Attorney. We understand that there is give and take in negotiations but it
is time to stop all the giving and start taking for our futures.
