Charles Benz Jr., son of Charles Benz, owner of Benz Industrial Inc., was arrested early this morning for the murder of his girlfriend Tanya Smith. Smith was shot twice, once to the stomach and once to the back of the head. Benz denies having committed the crime and claims to remember nothing of the night’s events. Even though he was found less than a mile away from the scene in bloodied clothing, still carrying the murder weapon.

An elderly couple who lived in a condo less than 100 yards from the area where the shooting took place, called local police at 11:45 PM complaining about a couple arguing loudly out on the beach and disturbing their sleep. While still on the phone two gunshots, a few seconds apart, were heard from outside. The police arrived to find Tanya Smith lying dead in the sand.

Charles Benz Jr. was found about ten minutes later staggering down the beach seemingly dazed and disoriented. Blood spattered the front of his shirt and pants and a 9mm pistol rested in his pants pocket.

This is not the first time Benz Jr. has gotten himself into trouble; with a slew of speeding tickets and three counts of disturbing the peace he anything but an upstanding citizen, but murder is definitely a big jump from speeding tickets. Benz Sr. has decided not to post the $100,000 bail, saying, “I knew it would eventually come to this, a nice girl is dead, he can sit in prison. I want nothing to do with him.”

This is the third murder to take place on this small stretch of Melbourne Beach in as the last month. Police won’t comment on whether there’s a connection between the incidents.
