Medical and Dental Describe the surrounding communities. Geisinger is a tertiary care center located in Central PA. The hospital serves the whole central PA region and is the largest building in Danville. The town itself is quite small (about 6000 people) . It is very safe and clean and the center of the town is a fun place to shop. There are many antique and craft shops. In addition, every year they have a Halloween parade in the town for the kids that is really neat! What else would you like other spouses to know about the program? The call schedule is difficult for the first year with many months of q3, but it eventually evens out. By the third year, the resident has several months of outpatient with no call. It can be difficult adjusting to the "small town" way of life at first. Philadelpia is about 2-2.5 hours away and Penn State is also about 1.5-2 hours away. Some people claim to make it there in an hour, but I can't imagine how! The job opportunities for spouses is quite limited, if you are interested in any type of employment. The town is a wonderful place to raise children and there is a small university (Bloomsburg University) nearby that offers many undergraduate and some graduate programs. |
