| ABOUT THE BOOK The compilation of the book started in 1989 when I was a second year student of the department of Mathematics at the University of Lagos ,Nigeria. The purpose of the mathematics dictionary is to remove the unnecessary phobia students have about mathematics. I have identified, lack of resource materials at the foundation level as a major cause of the problems students have at a later stage in the study of Mathematics . The book therefore covers completely the requirements of syllabi in relevant sections of the 6-3-3-4 education program. In many cases the book goes further to explain and demonstrate elementary process of solving problems on topics like Bases, Decimals, Fractions, Percentages etc, which serves as quick remainder to students when examinations are at hand. Throughout the book illustrations and geometrical drawings are done by free hand (where practicable ), so as to convince students that this is possible and to encourage them to do the same when answering examinition questions. The syllabi of the Federal Ministry of Education (FME ), the CESAC,NERC,NECO,WAEC and other curricula bodies were studied while compiling the headwords in the book. Dr. (Mrs.) F .A. osanyin, a senior lecturer in Curriculum studies at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the President of Education Currculum Association of Nigeria ( ECAN ) helped in arranging the headwords to fall within the required syllbi. Prof. J .A.
