There are
different types of soil structure present indifferent places but three of them
are given below:
Single Grained structure: these
types of structures are formed by the settlement of coarse grained (generally
practical size >=0.01mm) soils in a soil-fluid suspension. It is the weight
of the particles that causes them to settle. This type of structure is observed
in the materials having little or no tendency to adhere to each other.
Honeycombed structures: this type
of the structure occurs in soils fine enough To have cohesion like silt and
clays. It is possible under some conditions of deposition for granular material
to have a honeycombed structure
Flocculent structure: flocculent
structure can occur only in very fine-grained soils.
Solid particles suspend in a liquid settle at a speed which is proportional
to the square of the partical diameter.
It should be noted that soil
particles settle in different ways in the different conditions and
it is possible
that they may have many kind of structures. But the structures given above are
the most common structures.
