RSS HERCULES - RSSBN 593, SHADOW CLASS SUBMARINE The bridge is very busy on the third nuclear powered rodent submarine. It holds 30 ballistic missiles and a little over 50 crew members. It’s not very big, but it is big enough to handle the New York Bay area. Its captain is Captain Reginald Galvan. JAKE (Radar Operator): Captain, vessel approaching at 140 degrees, depth 8 inches, unknown classification. REGINALD: Hail it. GEORGE (Radio Operator): Unknown vessel bearing one-four-zero, this is the RSS Hercules. What is your designation code? Nothing. GEORGE: Repeating… Unknown vessel, what is your designation code. JAKE: Captain! Inbound torpedo! CAPTAIN: Dive to three feet and bring us to alert status. Fire tubes one and two. PAUL (Controls): Down to three feet. HAROLD (Weapons): Aye, aye! Firing tubes one and two. JAKE: Torpedo still inbound. ETA 5 seconds. CAPTAIN: Fire tube three, set the torpedo’s target to their’s. HAROLD: Firing tube three. JAKE: Torpedo ETA 1 second. Contact. There are two explosions. JAKE: Both torpedoes hit us. Our’s and their’s. MARY (Engineer): Sections 2 and 3 are flooding. Activating water tight doors. CAPTAIN: Surface. PAUL: Surfaced. EUS EYE OF RA - EUSBN 876, MEDITERRANEAN CLASS SUBMARINE The bridge is larger on the Eurasian vessel. In fact, the Eye of Ra is the largest nuclear powered submarine in the Eurasian navy. It holds 150 ballistic missiles and has 200 crew members. It is currently being captained by the dictator of Eurasia, Reba Mousentyre. RADAR OPERATOR: They’ve surfaced. REBA: Bring us to ramming speed. Extend the forward ice breakers. CONTROLLER: Aye, aye, ma’am. The Eye of Ra’s forward ice breaker is a V shaped blade, sharpened to cut through almost anything, including the thin hull of the Hercules. REBA: Surface directly under them. CONTROLLER: Aye, aye. The sub slices clean through the Hercules, the two halves begin to sink. RSS HERCULES - RSSBN 593, SHADOW CLASS SUBMARINE MARY: We’re going down, captain. CAPTAIN: Send the abandon ship order. GEORGE: All hands, abandon ship! Abandon ship! Water begins pouring into the bridge through a hatch, Jake closes it. JAKE: Let’s get out of here. All of the bridge crew heads out of another hatch, and the captain stays behind. Jake notices. JAKE: Come on, sir. The captain looks at him and pulls out a wine bottle and glass. He pours himself half of a glass. CAPTAIN: Here’s to life. He makes a toasting motion and sips the wine as the hatch Jake closed blows open, killing the captain. Jake closes the exit and leaves with the others. RANGER HEADQUARTERS The Rangers sit on the couch. GEORGE (On Radio): RSS Hercules - RSSBN 593 to HQ, come in. GADGET: Strange, the Navy never uses this channel. NAVY GUY (On Radio): This is HQ, why are you broadcasting on a civilian radio channel? Especially the one the Rescue Rangers use? GEORGE (On Radio): The “Hercules” is sunk, sir. Only thirteen survivors. CHIP: What? GADGET: Golly… NAVY GUY (On Radio): By what means? GEORGE (On Radio): Some new kind of submarine. Three times our sub’s size. ELLEN (On Radio): This is RSA Secret Service. The sub you’ve described is a Eurasian Attack Sub, the “Eye of Ra.” NAVY GUY (On Radio): Why weren’t we informed? ELLEN (On Radio): Ask your superior, I made sure the Council President got this information. CAROLYN (On Radio): Carolyn Northwood to the Rescue Rangers. The research vessel “Dream catcher” is not responding to radio communications. They picked up the survivors. Gadget grabs the microphone. GADGET: What was the last location of the vessel you have on record? CAROLYN (On Radio): In the Hudson River. ELLEN (On Radio): Rangers, come to my house and I will allow you to use my ship. GADGET: All right. OUTSIDE ELLEN’S HOUSE The Rangers meet with Ellen by a park bench. GADGET: Where is your house? Ellen pulls a remote out of her pocket and pushes a button, opening a door hidden in the leg of the bench. ELLEN: After you. They head into the elevator. ELEVATOR The doors close behind them. ELLEN: My home is thirty feet below the ground, It’s perimeter walls are one foot thick, and has an emergency access point in the subway. The Elevator stops and the doors open. ELLEN: 2nd floor, main port, commons, and sleeping quarters. PORT They exit the elevator and head through an adjacent door. GADGET: What is this place? ELLEN: One of the old Ultra Flight facilities. They pass a number of boxes marked with the Ultra Flight propeller logo and the words “ULTRA FLIGHT CORPORATION.” There are many shipping crates and twenty year old human-sized laptop computers. CHIP: They sure left in a hurry. ELLEN: Yeah, it’s weird, I have no idea why. I’ve got plenty of parts if you need them. At the end of the room is a dock and a medium sized freighter, stamped with the name “Enlightened One.” ELLEN: Here she is, came with the house. It came with it’s own SRV. CHIP: SRV? GADGET: Submersible Research Vessel. CHIP: Oh. MONTY: So what was the ship doing out there? CAROLYN: Looking for the wreck of the “Fate of Apophis.” The name hit Ellen like a bus going 50 miles per hour. ELLEN: The… “Fate of Apophis?” John walks over to her and puts his hand on her shoulder. JOHN: She lost half her team on that ship. Why were they looking for it? CAROLYN: They found out that the ship could possibly have been carrying munitions after all. GADGET: Don’t tell me that Mike was right… CAROLYN: We don’t know, that’s why they were looking into it. ELLEN: But why did they want to go there. CAROLYN: They are all professional wreck divers. One of the ones they saved is my brother. GADGET: Don’t worry, we’ll find them. A small figure approaches from the elevator. GABRIELLE: Like you found my dad. GADGET: I’m sorry about your dad… GABRIELLE: No you’re not! CAROLYN: Gabrielle, go back to the plane. GABRIELLE: Fine. She runs back to the elevator. CAROLYN: I cannot come with you as I have to help my husband ship some things up north. She follows Gabrielle into the elevator. MONTY: So, what’s with these Ultra Flight people? Ellen opens a hatch. ELLEN: The UFC is THE largest rodent corporation. They provide worldwide transportation systems and weapons research. Who knows what else they are doing. They can do practically anything. They own most of the patents out there. They are very self-centered at times. She goes in, the Rangers follow. MONTY: Crikey. ULTRA FLIGHT NEW YORK, RUNWAY 2 Magic is packing equipment into one of the airplanes; Carolyn walks over and kisses him. MAGIC: Hey Care. CAROLYN: What’s our flight plan, Bill? Magic gets a map out. MAGIC: We’ll head over the river and north through pine valley and to the lake here. He traces the route with his finger. CAROLYN: No one’s used that flight plan since 1988. MAGIC: Come on, one plane goes down and that makes it a bad plan? Besides they said it was a heart attack. CAROLYN: They never actually looked for the plane you know. MAGIC: It is a very harsh area of terrain where the plane went down. That’s also the reason why our facility there shut down. CAROLYN: I really don’t like this. MAGIC: It’s all right, Care. Our new planes are ten times better than Geegaw’s plane, if you think his plane had a problem. CAROLYN: All right, let’s go. ENLIGHTENED ONE The ship steams out onto the river. Gadget and Ellen pack equipment into the sub. GADGET: Why did Magic and Carolyn take Gabrielle in? ELLEN: You don’t know? GADGET: No… ELLEN: Carolyn can’t have kids. GADGET: Oh… ELLEN: Yeah. John walks over. JOHN: Hey guys, let me help you with this. ELLEN: Thanks. He picks up one of the large cameras and puts it inside. JOHN: That thing must have weighed five pounds. Ellen just casually picks it up with one hand. ELLEN: You sure about that? JOHN: I think I need to work out more. Ellen wraps her arms around him. ELLEN: I like you the way you are. JOHN: I like you the way you are too. She kisses him lightly on the lips as he wraps his arms around her. Gadget puts another piece of equipment in. GADGET: Well, that’s all we’ll need, if we go down there. ELLEN: I won’t be going with you. I… I don’t want to see that ship ever again. GADGET: I understand. JOHN: I’ll stay with her, keep her calm. GADGET: That’s all right. NORTH OF UFLNY A cargo plane is flying over pine valley. CAROLYN: I still don’t like this. MAGIC: You want me to hold your hand. CAROLYN: If it makes the situation better. The compass begins spinning like crazy. MAGIC: Instrument malfunction. I’m taking her out of autopilot. He flips a switch and begins to fly by himself. MAGIC: We’re getting one heck of an updraft from the edge of the valley, tower. I’m going to pull us over it to clear it. UFLNY TOWER: Roger. MAGIC: Beginning climb. He pulls back on the yoke. Carolyn looks at the maintenance monitor. CAROLYN: We have a malfunction with the fuel pump. Flame out is imminent. MAGIC: Preparing to level out. The engines die. CAROLYN: Flame out. MAGIC: Tower, we have a confirmed flame out situation. I’m sacrificing our altitude for speed. UFLNY TOWER: Roger. He pushes the yoke forward, bringing the nose to point in a downward angle. The engines kick back on. MAGIC: Leveling out. The plane goes below tree level. MAGIC: Tower, can you hear me? Suddenly there is a large explosion from the left wing. CAROLYN: We clipped a tree. MAGIC: May day, may day. This is T9KEL-UFLNY, we are going down. Silence. MAGIC: I’m not getting anything on the radio. Preparing for an emergency landing. He brings the plane down to the ground, crashing into a pile of leaves and twigs. MAGIC: That wasn’t so bad. Carolyn is too shocked to respond. MAGIC: Let’s get out of here. CAROLYN: OK. ENLIGHTENED ONE The ship has made it to the site the wreck was believed to be. Ellen is now wearing a camouflage one piece swimsuit and is relaxing on the deck. The Rangers climb into the submarine made out of a “Slushie Pup” cup with Canina LaFur on the side. JOHN: What is with the sub? Ellen laughs lightly. ELLEN: Budget cuts and outsourcing. JOHN: Well, that sucks. GADGET (On Radio): We’re ready to go. ELLEN: All right. She kicks a lever which launches the sub. Ellen and John (NOT Elton John) are now alone. John sits in the deck chair next to Ellen’s. JOHN: Nice day isn’t it. Ellen smiles slightly. ELLEN: Yes it is. RADIO: SOS, SOS, this is the Dios del Mar. We are going down. Ellen grabs the radio. ELLEN: This is the Enlightened One, we’re on our way. She switches it to the sub’s channel. ELLEN: We have to save a ship that’s sinking, be back in a few. GADGET (On Radio): All right, don’t be too long. Ellen puts her shorts on over her swimsuit and then she puts on her boots. ELLEN: John, you control the speed lever, I’ll take the wheel. JOHN: Right. They run to the bridge. PINE VALLEY Magic checks a wound on Carolyn’s arm. MAGIC: You’ll be all right. CAROLYN: How are we gonna get out of here Bill? MAGIC: We didn’t take the radio from that facility I told you about with us when we left. It may still be there. Can you walk? CAROLYN: Maybe. She gets up and is immediately dizzy. CAROLYN: My brain feels like it rode the scrambler. Functions like it too. Magic laughs and helps his wife walk. ELIGHTENED ONE The ship makes it to the Dios del Mar. ELLEN: What happened? SKIPPER: We hit another boat. ELLEN: Everyone all right? SKIPPER: Everyone’s fine, but the ship is sinking. ELLEN: Get everyone aboard. We’ll drop you off at the nearest port. Ellen heads back to the bridge. JOHN: There is something I want to ask you. ELLEN: What is it? JOHN: Kind of an odd time to ask this but, will you marry me? He pulls a ring from his pocket and Ellen stands shocked. ELLEN: John… uh… She hugs him. ELLEN: Yes I will. She begins to cry tears of joy as she hugs him. PINE VALLEY Magic is now carrying his wife. CAROLYN: I don’t feel so good. MAGIC: We’re almost there. Don’t worry. They reach the door of an old building. The door opens and an old mouse with a long white beard and mustache stands there. MOUSE: Are you guys all right? MAGIC: My wife’s sick. Who are you? MOUSE: I don’t even know who I am, anymore. I’ve been here for almost forty years. Carolyn screams in pain. MOUSE: She must be pretty bad off. MAGIC: Our plane crashed up on the hill there. MOUSE: A lot of planes have gone down up there. She’s probably got some internal bleeding, it’ll hurt like heck and would need surgery. MAGIC: Does the radio still work? MOUSE: You wouldn’t happen to have a 2016 watch battery to power it do you? MAGIC: No, but we kept spares, under the floor. I’ll go look. He lays Carolyn down on a couch. SUBMARINE They approach the wreck of the “Fate of Apophis.” The three USRAFs bodies lay in the debris field. GADGET: It’s so sad. Poor guys, poor Ellen. I hate war. Chip puts his hand on her shoulder. CHIP: It’s all right, let’s keep looking. They move on towards the stern and find the “Dream Catcher” lying on top of it. Around the ship lay the bodies of the five wreck divers. Carolyn’s brother was not among them. GADGET: I hate this stuff. Why did they have to die? A diver swims from the wreck and knocks on the plastic bubble and points up. They surface. SURFACE The Enlightened One approaches from the south. The diver climbs onto the sub to talk to its occupants. HAROLD: Hello, I’m Harold Thatcher. I was wondering when someone would show up. GADGET: What happened? HAROLD: We were torpedoed. Five died instantly, the others were taken prisoner. I hid in the wreck with the diving gear. MONTY: Crikey! That must’ve been that sub that sank the “Hercules.” CHIP: Are you Carolyn Northwood’s brother. HAROLD: That I am. I was the weapons officer on the “Hercules.” DALE: Zowie, where’s Zipper? GADGET: Yeah, where is he? PARK We see Zipper and Queenie flying near the hive. QUEENIE: It’s nice to see you again Zipper. Zipper squeaks in agreement. SURFACE The Enlightened One shows up and they are pulled out of the water. PINE VALLEY RESEARCH STATION-UFC Magic replaces the radio’s battery and tries it. MAGIC: This is William Northwood to UFLNY, come in UFLNY. UFLNY TOWER: Where’d you go? MAGIC: Our plane crashed. We have a medical emergency at the Pine Valley Research Station. UFLNY TOWER: Roger, evac is on the way. MAGIC: Over and out. Magic heads over to his wife and holds her hand. MOUSE: You are too nice of a person to work at Ultra Flight. Magic laughs lightly, never taking his eyes off of his wife. MAGIC: I own Ultra Flight Laboratories of New York. MOUSE: How long will it be before we can finally leave this place? MAGIC: A few more seconds. A Condor Dropship lands outside and they get on it. MAGIC: By the way, you never told me your name. MOUSE: UFLNY ID code GH3902, Hackwrench, Geegaw, Department L, Transportation and Equipment. Magic just sits since he is stunned by the news.. ENLIGHTENED ONE Gadget notices that Ellen is unusually happy. GADGET: What’s up with you? Ellen shows Gadget her ring. GADGET: Golly! I’m so happy for you! They hug. ELLEN: Thank you. John walks over. JOHN: Strange, first case without a big fight. It is a nice day. Ellen kisses him.
