One 4th of July we were driving around in the mountains, around Mike's house.  We were lost and trying to find something fun for the boys to do.  We saw a sign that read Fort Defiance.  We thought they might like to see an old fort.  We pulled in.

We discovered that it wasn't a fort.  It is the 18th century house of General William Lenoir.  The house is a historical site with tours given.  Events are put on in costume.  That day Ft Defiance was open, with tours, 18th century games for the kids, food and all.  We had a blast.  We stayed to the bitter end and help clean up.  We also put ourselves on the volunteer list.

We are now volunteering regulary out there.  The boys love it, too.  At Christmas time the Fort had a special 12th night celebration.  We were all in costume and were stationed in the childrens rooms, upstairs.  The boys played 9 pin and help CJ and I talk about what life was like for the kids in the house.

The above picture is from Living History Days.  Hunter and Danny were in costume.  They were helping tend the oxen and horses.  They learned a lot that day and had fun running around barefoot and in costume.  Hunter had a cut on his foot that I wanted to keep covered so we put a botton bandage around it and he got to tell people stories about how it happened.  He loved it.

Today, Valentines Day, CJ and I are going there to help serve a Valentines dinner for patrons.  We will be in costume.  Following 18th century customs.  It is a 5 course meal.  There is also a 'tavern' with tavern punch and some gaming.

That is our romantic evening.  Serving other people food, while in costume.  Very interesting.....

Buddy was upset that he couldn't go but with it being a school night and the libations, we thought it best he not.

We are looking forward to other events.
