My Homebrew Projects

Hello and Welcome to Roy's Amateur Radio Page.

Successful Homebrewing in the Philippines is a mixture of hard work, patience and some plain old good luck, hihihihihi....

Before I decided to build my CW Transmitter, I first thing I did was read, read, read.... I studied and read all the things about building a project that I can get myhands on. I searched the Web, bought some books, re-read some of my old college books and even bought some year-old CQ, Ham Radio and QST from second hand book stores.

I then saved and bought tools that I needed. I already had some basic hand tools and an Analog VOM so I bought a soldering iron and a hand drill to some how help me start.

I first decided that if I were to build a Transmitter, I had to start with something simple. I decided to build a Dip Meter. I then looked for a good circuit to follow. I found it in
Harry's (SM0VPO) Homebrew Pages. I built his FET Dip Oscillator.

At first, attempts of building the GDO was marred by the availability of parts. The coil forms were different from what was written and I had trouble looking for the Variable Capacitor. I looked for the Tuning Capacitor (Tuner here in the Philippines) and eventually settled for the nearest approximation. The FET was harder to find. I found some MPF-102's from a local Radioshack store and tried it. The coils I used were of diferent size (5/8 inch dia. plastic tubing from discarded sewing thread forms). The meter was bought for P 75.00 (approx. $1.50 )brand new. It worked but the frequency range was well off. So I experimented changing the coil turns and wire sizes and had a coil for the frequency range I wanted.

This started me off  in my homebrewing.....
