Iraq

My friend, James Smith SSgt 506 ECES/CEC, is currently stationed in Iraq.
I am keeping a diary of his experiences over there.
May we never forget the men and women that serve and die so that the freedoms that we enjoy will continue.
Pray for our leaders and our soldiers.
God bless America!

Monday December 29, 2003:
Stationed at an old Iraqi military airfield. It is the rainy season (lots of mud), with temperatures in the 40's and the 30's with an occasional 20's (Fahrenheit - Sorry we don't do Celsius in the USA yet). They currently are living in tents, which luckily have heat. When asked if he wanted anything, he replied that he would like some lasagna. I am not sure it would survive the trip. :-)
He was in Iraq when Sadam was captured. I share his excitement with this event and hope that it brings pause to other would be dictators and terrorist.
Robin Williams went to Iraq just before Christmas and brought laughter to them.
If I get a picture of that event, I will post it here.

Sunday January 4, 2004:
James is still having lasagna withdrawals. I decided to include his directions on how to deliver it to him. I think I may have issues finding a Federal Express person that is dedicated enough to handcuff himself to a package that is entrusted to him. :-)
Operation Lasagna:
As prep, ensure all necessary forms are handled beforehand and give your wife plenty of rest and relaxation before the event to ensure optimum cooking attitude. Use a cooler packed with DRY ICE. Federal Express runs to the Kirkuk Airbase . . . every once in a while. Have A Fed Ex courier standing by as the lasagna is finished. At the moment of optimum savoriness, the package is wrapped in an insulating foil and immediately inserted into the dry ice. Quickly seal the package and hand it directly to the courier. Instruct the courier to let no one stop the delivery of the package. Handcuff it to him and send him on his way. Send me the tracking number of the package and I'll take it from there. Good luck civilian, I'm counting on you.
