The Hard Truth
Human free moral agency and the sovereignty of God are both clearly taught in the Bible. They cannot be understood or harmonized by the human mind, yet they are true. One side of the truth does not cancel the other side. They both are true, yet God is the only One who can explain this and will, when we see Him in Heaven, not before. If we attempt to harmonize these clearly revealed truths in this life we run the risk of distorting the Word of God. Let’s get it right; our logic must bow to the ultimate authority of God’s revealed truth, not the other way around.
9-11, war with Iraq, suicide bombers, Israel launching anti-terrorist attacks with brutal force, weapons of mass destruction. This is a time when people are asking tough questions about our world; our nation's future, our spiritual health, our beliefs about God. What about natural disasters? Tornados, hurricanes, floods. We sometimes find ourselves confused, even angry. Maybe you've been touched by sickness or disease. What about AIDS, SARS, cancer, tumors? Many are asking: What is God's role in our world? Is God responsible for the 9-11 attack? Did God cause the attack or did He just allow it and if so, why? Does God allow evil in the world? How can he if he is a loving God? When we accept the Bible as the Word of God, we get many of the answers we need, but not all questions will be answered in this life. God's Word tells us that even when everything seems out of control we can take comfort in the fact that He is very much in control. Nothing surprises God or overwhelms Him. Nothing will happen that is outside of His grand design for the universe. He controls every atom of every created thing. He created all things and He will perfectly take care of all things. Furthermore, God is good and God is loving. This may cause you to despair or it may infuriate you. That's OK. My hope is that you will find peace of mind and extreme joy because of the thought provoking concepts you will find throughout these pages. I want to have an interesting and honest dialogue with you. Here, you can discover God, in all His majesty and wonder. Just remember, if we could figure Him out, He would not be God.
