Bio: Derek has never been one to hold long conversations with house guests and pretend he was interested. Even when he was a boy, he avoided the children playing their games religiously. Not that he was healthy enough to be out playing games much of the time anyway. Derek was nearly always sick in his youth, always bed-ridden and coughing. It was during these long days spent in his bed that he grew fond of books. His home became the fantastic world of those books, his friends the characters involved in all those epics. That is, until he found more esoteric volumes of a more eldritch flavor.Ever since he saw the first book alluding to magic, an insatiable need to know what this strange force was drove him to search for the methods of such power. Here began his study of magic, which has largely taken over what life is left to him after the sickness. His mind became absorbed in the idea of manipulating the world around him. Somehow the idea of bending the world to his wiles seemed immensely appealing.
His life since that fateful day of reading that book has consisted nearly entirely of either sickness or magic. He had little room for anything else, and he saw no reason to let anyone else into it. It was his, he decided, and no one else had anything to do with it. The world outside of his studies dimmed, grew thick with violence, but he didn't care. His father passed, and he shed no tear. He just kept reading.
