Augustine Winter BoscalettiStatus: Sister of Amelia Boscaletti Age: Twenty-three Marital Status: Single. Children: None. Height: 5'8". Weight: 124 lbs. Markings: None. Piercings: Both ears, once. Medical Conditions: Borderline Personality Disorder. Special Ability: Black Magic. Bio:
Born two years after her older sister Amelia,
Augustine was given to her mother, Leonatta, to raise
and to mold. A beautiful baby yet serious baby,
Augustine brought her mother great joy. People would
comment with some amazement that Augustine did not
have the placid face of a child, but rather the
expressions of a deliberate adult. Even young, she was
able to converse with an eery maturity not found in
others her age. This delighted Leonatta, hopeful to
share her love of the scholarly arts with her
promising daughter. Augustine, young and
impressionable, favored her grandfather though, always
brightening up when the crazy old man entered the
room. She was his clear favorite and the one that held
her when they put her mother's body into the ground.Job, her grandfather and Donovan's father, suffered from what is now diagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder. He was emotionally unstable, his emotions shifting from depression to anxiety to joy quickly and without notice. He was paranoid and often angry at someone or something for no apparent reason. In old age, this tended towards delusions and drinking. He did however notice that Augustine was fascinated with fire and water; he would watch the girl run her fingertips over candle flame or caress winter's ice. After approaching his son, it was agreed that he would be able to train the girl on the sole condition that Augustine would also receive a good education. A highly regarded tutor, one Leonatta had studied with, was hired and Augustine spent her days torn between training with her grandfather and studying literature and politics. She never lost that serious look on her face. In paintings commissioned by her father, even the artist gave up trying to urge her to smile. She always seemed content in the background, apart from her family. For some reason, she couldn't feel a connection with any of them which she promptly blamed on her mother's death. If she had a mother, she often told the nurse maids, she would be able to understand love. A mother's love, after all, was the proto-type of all love she would say. The nurse maids tended to her, some even cared greatly for her, but none loved her. She was difficult. Augustine was able to outsmart them, a naturally bright girl. She was spiteful; a denial of a request often resulted in her stomping to her private place. Some compared her to her grandfather. The constant reminders from the tutor that her mother had wanted her to study the classics and rhetoric did not improve her moods. Nor did her father's disinterest in her. When it seemed simply that it could get no worse, Job died. The bright spots in Augustine's days had been with her grandfather. While other children were sometimes coddled by their teachers, Job demanded quick learning. Not that he needed to demand anything. While Augustine did well in her studies, she disliked them for they were structured and rather dull. Job's lessons were scattered and he let his granddaughter direct most of the learning. She would even practice when she was not supposed to and even faced her father's harsh punishments. But Job's death made her feel as if she had little left to stay for. So she left. She got a job in the marketplace, selling teas imported from all over the world. Of course her family knew where she was; the Boscaletti family was far too powerful for them not to. Donovan took no steps to force her to return; he knew that would only make things worse. He asked her to return via a currier, and she refused thinking his illness was not as bad as many said. His death brought her great guilt and she did return home for his funeral. And she didn't leave. Many of her family treated her oddly at her return, some upset that she had run away, some upset that she had performed such a menial task. Augustine found herself unable to return to her job. If she had stayed, she could have said goodbye to her father and that thought hung heavy in her mind. And so Augustine lives with her family once again, doing whatever jobs her sister requests for her to do.
