Review
of the July 2002 Deepend gig
posted on The Deependers Review Board (a totally unbiased view!)
Repomen: Quite quirky, a bit studenty for me, but the frontman got the crowd going and the band were an unusual mix, but it seemed to work. Not for everyone, but not offensive. A bit like The Toy Dolls. 7/10. (The Toy Dolls! Eh? - Ed). Sidewinder: The night's most melodic band, IMO. Great singer, brilliant songs & harmonies. Total pop thrill without a hint of cheese. Like The Stone Roses with Rod Stewart singing. More! 10/10. Leon: A really good band, who have obviously work hard on the whole sound, which hung together really well. A bit RAWK! for my liking, but they sounded as good as the same sort of thing on the radio. A bit like a more acceptable form of nu-metal. 8.5/10. Overall : A BRILLIANT nights bands - for only a couple of quid! This was my first time in Sheffield (visiting friends), but if all the bands there are like those (especially Sidewinder) I'm coming back. A fantastic atmosphere, too. Much more lively crowd than anywhere else I've been, especially on a Wednesday. 9/10. Nice one Deep-end! I'll be back. Clare Tamplin.
