Families
moving out of San Francisco is not a shock for me. The price of living has
gone up tremendously and housing markets are just
plain ridiculous. Only
14.5 % of the population consists of children 18 and under. Now that’s
a problem.
During the last three generations, parents would pass and/or sell on
their homes/estates to their children. The webmaster heard that
houses in San Francisco cost from
$50,000 to $300,000. In 2005, houses go from $500,000 up to millions
of dollars. This is a HUGE PROBLEM for the middle.
Unless the house has been paid in full and a person has a good credit
rating, how can a house be passed down or paid off. Usually it takes
about more
than $4,000 to pay for monthly living expenses including rent, utilities,
and other
stuff. Think about it…San Franciscans who cannot work in specialized,
skilled jobs, must work over 10 hours a week and sometimes work in overtime
to receive
more money.
To be honest. the webmaster loves living in San Francisco. However,
how the hell am I going to pay for a house in San Francisco in the
future
unless I
make a
six-figure income (if the webmaster lives on his own). In addition,
to living expenses there’s high taxes in San Francisco in particular.
For example: sales tax at Davis is at 7.5%; however, sales tax in San Francisco
is at 8.5%.
Here’s another question: Where do all the families go once they leave
San Francisco?
The answer has been quite obvious over the past ten years. Numerous
families who cannot afford to live in San Francisco (especially
by making an income
between $25,000-$50,000) initially moved towards more parts of
the Bay Area like San
Jose and Oakland. However, once the real estate prices went up
in the Bay Area skyrocketed…then, the Sacramento area has become a preeminent
place for new families to move.
Honestly traffic coming from San Francisco to Sacramento on a weekday
basis, on Interstate Highway 80, during rush hour has become
frantic especially
on Friday afternoons. From 3PM till 8PM on Fridays. traffic from
Vallejo to Sacramento
congests the lanes (That’s about a 60 mile stretch).
Simply put this is the crisis in San Francisco: There are more
dogs, with clothing, than kids going around playing inside
parks that are
designed for them. Can
a true middle class exist in San Francisco anymore, or will
the middle class be
relinquished to living in slum neighborhoods/’ghettos” in the
city.
The webmaster believes: it really does suck to be to a 20 year
old, in the middle class, living in San Francisco.
