Well…many Brits are
not only angry at America since the American President George W. Bush and British
Prime Minister Tony Blair took soldiers from both
prospective countries to fight Iraq in “Operation Iraqi Freedom” (That’s
what the America media calls it, and the webmaster knows that many people will
disagree).
In addition, many Brits are angered at NFL owner, Malcolm Glazer of the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers, since he has become the majority owner of England’s most
well known sports club internationally,
Manchester United (MU).
Let’s take a look at Mr. Glazer’s track record as owner of the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers:
He threatened to leave the city of Tampa Bay if the city did not build and
publicly fund for a new stadium.
During the 2001 playoffs, Malcolm Glazer was looking for a new head coach
while Tony Dungy was trying to win a playoff game for the same organization.
All
of a sudden during that off-season, Glazer snagged John “Chuckie” Gruden
from the Oakland Raiders.
Then the most important question: How many Super Bowls have the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers won until 2005? If I recall, only one Super Bowl under the first
year of Head
Coach John Gruden. More importantly, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a
mediocre to decent franchise by making the playoffs and not being able to
make it to
the Super Bowl until the 2002 season.
Mr. Glazer does not have a good background as an owner of one professional
sports franchise, and now he want to own two.
By now, many people have
realized there’s only one reason that Mr. Glazer owns the majority of England’s
Manchester United: PROFIT. He wants to become the private owner of the team
by owning at least 75% of MU so that he can make most of the profit off their
merchandising sales and off their mostly packed or sold-out games.
This is a complete outrage. I live in the United States and follow baseball
with a passion while following soccer on occasion. Fans of MU have a right
to be outraged at Mr. Glazer and yell all the profanities they want. In
addition, Mr. Glazer has not been to England as of June 2005 to make an
announcement
in person. Also, the British media went to a press conference for Tampa
Bay winning the bid for the 2009 Super Bowl. The Glazer family (Malcolm
not being
at the press conference) refused to answer questions concerning MU towards
the British media. More importantly, many NFL owners are skeptical of Mr.
Glazer for owning two valuable sports franchises.
Fans of MU have voiced strong opinion against Mr. Glazer owning the team.
Some advice: BOYCOTT GAMES PLAYED AT HOME & DON’T BUY MU REALTED PRODUCTS.
If Mr. Glazer realizes that he cannot make a profit off MU, then he might just
leave. It’s drastic, but for the first time in history, Manchester United
is in debt by the mere fact that Mr. Glazer borrowed half the money to purchase
the team from a bank. Manchester United needs to stay part of the local community
in England through its shareholders, and not owned by seem greedy, American
seeking profit.
