International TV=Worse Than American TV

These days the webmaster has been using the remote control a lot especially since the webmaster doesn’t like the scene going on in American television with too many reality television shows and some bad scripted shows.
As a result, the webmaster watches international channels in different languages since there are so many channels. The webmaster’s crib has a total of five Spanish channels: Univision, Telemundo (now owned by NBC), TV Azteca, Telefutura, and Galavision.
In addition, the webmaster receives the AZA channel formerly the International Channel and the new ImagiAsian Channel. It’s so funny to watch these programs that they are even worse than American reality TV shows.
Here are just some to name a few.

Primer Impacto (Weekdays on Univison at 5PM)

While the webmaster was watching Anderson Cooper on Conan O’ Brien, Anderson Cooper did something very strange. (You should know by now that all these celebrities go on talk shows to promote their latest projects or themselves). Anderson Cooper was not promoting his own news show on CNN. Instead, Anderson Cooper started to promote the show “Primer Impacto.” (Please check out the webpage…even though u may not know any Spanish). He doesn’t speak Spanish, and he still watches the show based on the fact that it’s so ridiculous.
Most of the Spanish-speaking community in the U.S. already know about the show. This show presents outrageous stories about ordinary people doing outrageous things, celebrity gossip, some soccer news, and everyone’s favorite astrologer: Walter Mercado. Walter Mercado is a legend in the Spanish-speaking community and in the astrology community with his outrageous robes and the flam bouncy of a pimp. (Google: Walter Mercado or just watch Primer Impacto).

La Academia (TV Azteca Weeknights at 9PM)

Shows like American Idol create big ratings in the United States. In addition, the “Idol” format has worked in 10 different countries/regions around the world in helping ratings and pushing commercials for a long time.
Mexican television took the concept and did something extra to it. This show “La Academia” is a combination of “Big Brother” (people living in a house with surveillance cameras/video everywhere) and “American Idol” (where the contestants sing one or more songs being judged by a panel and the least amount of votes determine who gets eliminated).
Since the webmaster knows how to speak Spanish, the show is even funnier. The show’s ridiculous. Why? Well, right now in their fourth season…there’s a shark tank on the stage in between the judge’s table and the performer’s stage.
Then, one of the female singers actually stood 20 feet on a pedestal while her dress was inflated to form a helium balloon around her for a radius of 20 feet or so.
Last year, the contestants had to sing love/pop songs in English (To be honest…it sucked. If they can’t speak English very well…How can they sing the song on pitch and on-key in English?)
The judges are great too. There’s this white guy who just tells everyone that they mostly suck and finds different ways of expressing their “suckiness” (like Simon Cowell on “American Idol”).

British Political Party Ads

While watching late night TV, the remote control clicked through C-SPAN 2 (the political channel watched mainly by college students so some can make up their favorite drinking games based on the predictability of the U.S. government). All of a sudden, this channel showed commercials from two out of the three major political parties in England (Conservative Party & the Liberal Democrat…The webmaster didn’t view a political ad for the Labour Party, the political party of Prime Minister Tony Blair).
Many Brits don’t like Blair for going against his own party, the Labour Party, especially on the issue of the “Iraq War” for being one of the few powerful leaders to side with America for Iraq.
America and the UK are vastly different; however, both the conservatives/republicans and the liberal democrats/democrats are very similar in their approaches. These party ads were like three minutes long.
The Conservative Ad: Basically tried to promote it’s ideals lime elimination of taxes and had some “jolly, old Brit” politician trying to promote England and be the alternative against the Labour party.
The Liberal Democrat Ad: This ad promoted how in Scotland (England’s neighbor to the north) the liberal democrats took power of the government. The Liberal Democrats in Scotland are allowing trying to get free healthcare and even free education for its people.
Of course, the Liberal Democrats in England want that same vision as being accomplished in Scotland.
In addition, many Brits (including many citizens from British districts such as Leicestershire) voiced their change in affiliation/loyalty from the Labour Party (Tony Blair’s party) towards the Liberal Democrats. In the end of the ad, this ad shows the Liberal Democrats taking over both Scotland and England.

Big Brother

“ Big Brother” is going into it’s six season in the U.S. The concept of the show is having 12 people live in a house with no privacy whatsoever from the cameras/video.
This show has been seen in other countries like “England,” “Poland,” and “Mexico.” Since there’s less censor ship laws in these countries, you know what that means for TV and internet viewers.

(Don’t blame the webmaster…I am just the messenger that’s all.)
