Kiezo Flit

A shrill laugh--no, more like a cackle--alerts you to the presence of another creature near you. You jump, startled, but the noise doesn't sound unfriendly. You're a bit unnerved, but you keep walking.

About thirty seconds later, you become aware of a small shape following you, stepping when you step and imitating your every move. Experimentally, you twist yourself into a hard-to-reach position, only to stagger and fall--you were already off balance because of your pose--from laughter as the shape behind you contorts and crashes to the ground.

You get back up with haste, however, so you'll have the advantage of being up before the whatever-it-is. You can barely make out, from the mangled heap on the ground, a pair of yellow wings. Otherwise all you see is a pile of red.

The creature flutters its wings in annoyance as it stands. "Thanks," she says sarcastically, brushing herself off. "I really wanted to fall on the ground."

"Well, why didn't you just not try to copy my pose? You can't blame me for your misfortune. Sorry you fell, but--"

"Now I'm all dirty." she interrupts, staring up at you with unblinking eyes. "Can't you give me a treat? For getting me dirty? I wouldn't be dirty if you hadn't made me fall."

"Treat? No, I can't give you a treat!" you exclaim. "I don't have one, and I didn't make you fall, anyway."

"But look at my wing... It's dirty!" She extends a wing and points to a tiny black speck with her other claw. You wouldn't have seen it if she had not shown you.

"That--that's not dirty!" you respond incredulously. "That's tiny!" Then, upon taking a closer look, you realize something else: "That's chocolate!"

She snaps her wing shut immediately, an expression almost--but not quite--like guilt on her face. "Is not."

"It is, too. And I'm not going to give you more to spill on yourself; you'd probably use it to get something else from another poor traveler." Trying to add a bit of finality to your statement, you turn your back and start walking away.

Then you hear flapping wings, and she comes around to face you again. "Wait, don't just walk away. It's rude." You open your mouth, about to tell her something about herself and rudeness, but before you can she asks, "What's your name?"

You tell her and try to push your way around her.

"Nice name. I'm Kazan, a kiezo flit. I came here when I was little. When did you come here?"

"I came about a month ago to explore and meet other species," you growl. "However, that does not mean you can continue to harass me. I came to meet civil creatures."

"I'm not civil, now?" she asks in a mock-offended voice. "I feel like you don't appreciate me! Oh... What a pity. Now I'm sad." She sniffs a bit, though you can see a grin edging her snout. "Fine, leave me here. Alone. With dirty wings..."

You roll your eyes and walk away.
