Your brow furrows as you come upon a low white fence. This was odd indeed. Weren't creatures supposed to run free here? Curious, you follow along the barrier.
You find no gate. However, halfway around, a trotting sound reaches your ears. You slow, and it gets closer...
"Hello," a young, male voice greets you. "My name is Fuirishokora. May I inquire as to yours?" He smiles politely.
"Um... sure," you reply uncertainly, and introduce yourself.
"Lovely. And why, exactly, are you here?" he asks pleasantly.
"I was just... checking out the fence," you answer helplessly.
"And you couldn't find the gate, I supposes?" He chuckles. Well, at least he isn't being so annoyingly formal now. Not quite.
"That is correct." You take a deep breath, then ask, "Why is this here? Shouldn't all of the creatures in Arlenoa be free to roam wherever they please?"
He looks blank for a fraction of a second before a glint of understanding lights up his already-too-bright face. "Oh, of course they should! Actually, I requested this. It helps me keep myself limited and gives me reference points for when I move through my paces." Sheesh. This guy's probably never been rude to anybody in his life. Why did they create etiquette, anyway?
"Oh. I understand." At least, you think you do. Maybe.
He sighs. "Oh no, you don't. I can tell by the expression on your face..." He looks away, but, in doing so, realizes the sun's position. "Oh, dear!" he exclaims. Then to you, he says, "I'm sorry--I must go if I'm to keep on schedule. I hope you won't mind terribly if I leave you now. Good-bye!" And with that, he trots off down the fence-line, seeming a bit rushed for the fact that he's got an easy-going pace...
You ponder the fact that his last words could be the worst he's ever said, when taking into consideration his manners. You quickly dub the idea impossible, however, and continue your walk home.
