This is a bit map graphic of the fleets formation as seen from above, at the time of the attack. This is the formation currently used in the simulation program. The numbers indicate the ships position in the Simulations control array and have no other meaning. Star Kobol is number one because Serena said it was to be the site of the negotiations and first contact. You should also note that if you move Star Kobol back to the lead group it fits in to the right wing behind #3 and opposite #5 crating a wedge formation. Columbia is in the number 6 slot because thats where I put it, no real reason. In the Sim program to date number 18 and the right rear guard (#20, 21, 22) always survive. For number 18 the Cylons assigned to attack it are intercepted by fighters from Galactica's (#12) right bay. The right rear guard are the last attacked and have the greatest amount of time to see what is happening.
I have put the Acropolys in the #10 position because this ship suffers closest to what is heard in the background on the Galactica's bridge. Triton and Pacifica are best positioned to provide support for the Acropolys as called for in the Pilot.
This is a work in progress and the formation may change some as I gather more data, but for now I think it represents a good working model of the Colonial fleet at Cimtar. I would give almost anything to see the extra footage taken of the fleet and then cut from the final production, I really dont think I have captured the full scope of Collas vision of the Colonial fleet yet.
