Message from the Dean

Welcome to the web page of your College of Business student representative.
I realize many of you take for granted the marvel that is the internet, but electronic
communication provides opportunities for connectivity and interaction that were
unimaginable when I was a student. As it happens, I also was the elected student
representative for my college, back when the rotary telephone was the most advanced
form of electronic communication. I'm afraid my views may not have been all that
"representative" of other students, since I never had communication with most of them.

I encourage you to use this site extensively. Use it to learn the issues involving your
College of Business, to become involved in its success, and to communicate any concerns
to your representative (Albert Balbutin). My intention is for your student representative
to play an increasingly more extensive role in helping us help you get the most return on
your investment in the College of Business.

I have many plans for ways that we can be more responsive to your needs. For example,
in November we will open two new facilities. The CoB Student Laptop Lounge in BUS 220
will provide a comfortable setting to relax between classes, get some work done, or
extend your network of friends and contacts. The Business Relations Center in BUS 112
will help CoB students with a wide range of services outside the classroom, including
scholarships, internships, and job searches. The Center will build upon the strong relations
our College of Business has developed with the Bay Area business community.

At one time college classes were taught only in Latin, thereby assuring exclusivity
and proper isolation from the world of commerce. The SFSU College of Business is at
the other end of that spectrum. To us, higher education means higher interaction with
commerce, and we intend to build bridges from our campus to the global business community.
Let Albert know your thoughts on how we best can realize this vision.
