Trip to China (The Diary)
Everything here is written as it was on my diary that I carried around during the trip
Day 1 (Saturday, 31/7/04)
Slept for only 2 hours before we left for airport. And the day before I have only slept for 4 hours. In other words I'm dead tired. Btw, just so you know, today, only me and my dad are flying to China (Guang Zhou), my mom and bro are on tomorrow's flight. Why? Cause my dad is paranoid that we all die in one big massive fireball when the plane crashes. Paranoid? Hell ya! Statistics shows that you are actually more likely to get strike by lighning than to die in a plane crash.
Well, arrived at KLIA (airport) at 8am. Went to look for the correctly check-in counter on the screen. It says Row E-F... So, as we head towards counter E and F, we can see that the line is damn long! Upon investigation, I found out that 5 (FIVE!!!) different flights are checking in at the same area! It's ridiculous.. Something is bound to go amiss. It was such an obviously flawed system. So, we had no choice but to line up and wait for our turn.
On the flight, I slept for an hour, spent the rest of it reading the book I brought along. Angels and Demons (prelude of Da Vinci Code) by Dan Brown (author of Da Vinci Code). Very captivating book. Couldnt let go of it!
Anyhow, arrived in Guang Zhou and guess what!? My dad's luggage was missing. After lodging a complain, we were told that it was sent to Bangkok. And they would try to retrieve it ASAP. Btw, there were 4 more passengers who lost their luggage as well. The customer service there was horrendous. No apologies whatsoever. They made it seem as if its our own fault we lost the luggage.
It's summer here.. So expectantly, it's quite hot. What I didnt expect was to see people (guys, especially the fat ones) walking around without a shirt on. I saw this guy in a jewellers shop, and he just took off his shirt there and then.. So he can emjoy the air-conditioner to the max. Can't believe it.
So, we just checked into a hotel. I slept like a log. Dad woke me up to go to dinner. As we were walking around looking for food to eat. Dad suggested to go into this chinese viet restaurant. In my own head, I was like thinking (NO WAY!). I can't deal with this now. So I suggested elsewhere. We ended up in a posh looking restaurant and ordered 2 dishes (which was really crappy). Luckily, they were serving Dim Sums (Yumm Cha to you aussies), which was really good! So, just stuffed myself with Paus and HaMai and SiuMai!
Anyway, back in the hotel now. The lost luggage has been sent from Bangkok to Malaysia then to China and was delivered to our hotel. So, no more worries there. Watching Runaway Bride on TV and Julia Robert is speaking in CHINESE! They dubbed the whole film in Chinese.. weird. But Oh heck, It's Julia afterall. Reminded me of a friend who loves Julia Robert who herself in her own right is a pretty woman as well!
Well, it's back to reading the book. Then sleep.

Day 2 (Sunday, 1/8/04)
Slept in till 11-ish. Then went for breakfast. Dim Sum (Yumm Cha) again. The DimSums here are definitely better than anywhere else I've had (malaysia or australia). Anyway, after breakfast, me and dad headed towards the airport to pick up mom and bro.
They are sceduled to arrive at 2pm.. and they did.. And before you can say lift-off, they were on the next plane to Xi'An at 3.30pm. My dad and I took the 5.30pm flight....

NOTE: I've decided that I cant continue posting the diary I wrote on this trip. I would have to lie and leave out stuff... And I dont want to do that. I'd rather not tell it. Basically the trip was okay, but my dad had said and done some stuff that makes me angry and unhappy. And it somehow involved our gracious host as well.. So, I think it would be best I stop writing the diary. I feel unhappy just thinking about it. So.. Im sorry for the inconvenience. If you are interested on what actually happened.. u can always ask me.. Call me! Talking does me good..
I will however post pictures taken suring the trip.. when I get my hands on a scanner.
