Sgt. Truong's Push-up Plan - How to get to 100 push-ups

This is an extremely simple workout with no gimmicks or frills.  It is important to put out max effort because with this type of workout, you only get out what you put in.
Here it is:

Ok, say your max is 80. Now pick a number that is about 4 times that. Lets use 300. If you want to do more, you can use 350 or 400, but for this example we'll use 300.

On your first set, do max pushups in 2 min. Make sure you do them the entire time. If you get to failure, do them on you knees for the rest of the 2 min.

Lets say you did 80. (the knee ones don't count!) Now you have to do 220 in as few sets as possible. Rest about 30s to 1 min between sets, or just long enough so you're able to get half your max on the next set. (about 40)

MAKE SURE YOU GO AS HARD AS YOU CAN ON EVERY SET. After my last set, I'll usually max out doing knee pushups just to finish 'em off.

Now do this on Mon. and Fri. On Wed, do the same, but not as intensely. Every set, stop a few reps short of muscle failure. This is to make sure you get recovered from the Mon. workout by Fri.

Also, try to not do anything that will work your chest on Tues, or Thurs. Since your muscles will be really tired after doing this, it is important to give them time to rest.

Also, keep a record. I used to write down how many pushups I did during the max in 2:00 set every Mon. and Fri. The next Mon or Fri, I would make myself do more than what I did previous. Make sure you always do more or equal to what you did before, never less....

Like I said, this workout is extrememly simple, but if you put out, you will get results...

I hope this was clear. Let me know if you have any questions and if you give it a shot, let me know how it goes...

I just want to clarify a little. Those sets after the max in 2:00- you should do as many as you can do. (to failure) Don't limit yourself to half your max. Your goal is to do the remaining reps with as little rest as possible. I usually used about a minute. Hope that's clearer. This program worked for me, but I'm sure there are plenty out there that work just as well. Just push yourself as hard as you can and you will see results. Have fun.
