Part 11
That was the problem wasn’t it Morgan? We wanted it all…and we wanted it right now. Kira sighed. Guess it taught us both a valuable lesson didn’t it? At what expense though?
The muse was complaining loudly that it wasn’t being paid attention to. Yeah…I hear you. Where was I again? Kira laughed. The broom…Oh jeez. What had happened the next day was still a blur. Kira’s mind traveled back and she remembered……..

The alarm was going off. Kira lazily rolled over and shut the damn thing off. She stretched a bit, working some of the stiffness out of her sore body. She felt Morgan stirring so she rolled onto her side and snuck a peak at her groggy partner.
“Good morning.” Kira said cheerfully.
A sleepy blue eye glared at her. “It’s morning alright,” she said grumpily. “I don’t know if it’s good yet or not.”
Kira smothered a grin. “I thought I wasn’t the morning person around here….”
“Yeah…Well we all have our days.” Morgan replied. “Do we really have to get up?”
“Yup. ‘Fraid so. If we want to get everything done that we have planned for the day we do.”
Morgan asked hopefully, “Five more minutes?”
Kira giggled at her. “Five more minutes!” She said firmly. “Then I want that gorgeous butt outta bed.”
“Ok…Ok.” Morgan grumbled. “Gorgeous butt huh?” She watched as Kira climbed out from under the warm covers. She took the opportunity as it had presented itself so nicely. “Talk about gorgeous butts…”
“Morgan….” Kira admonished playfully.
Kira turned and was about to say something else when suddenly she wasn’t standing by the side of the bed anymore. Instead, she was laying back in it, trapped under a very awake Morgan, who just happened to be wearing a very sexy grin.
Kira sighed happily. She didn’t think they were going to be going anywhere for a while.
She was right.

“How can you live here? In this?” Morgan asked as they left the house.
Kira laughed. “This is nothing….just a little storm. You should the ones that dump two feet or more. Now THAT’S a snowstorm.”
“You mean to tell me,” Morgan pointed to the ground. “That this wasn’t a snowstorm?”
“Nahhh.” Kira giggled. “This was just a nuisance snow.”
“Nuisance snow? Yeah ok. Whatever you say.” Morgan mumbled.
“And I look at it this way,” Kira continued. “I DON’T have to live here anymore.” She grinned. “Remember? Or have you changed your mind already?”
“No I haven’t changed my mind….” She grinned. “And you better watch it there….or you’re going to find yourself in about…” She looked at the piles surrounding her. “12 inches of snow.”
Kira smiled back. “Ok Ok…I won’t say another word.”
They were laughing as they got in the truck and headed out.

They picked up the moving truck and headed back to Kira’s place. Morgan was having little trouble driving the larger vehicle through the fresh snow and it eased Kira’s nerves a bit. She still couldn’t quite believe what she was doing. It was happening. They had the truck and soon it would be loaded with all of her belongings and they would be transporting it so far away....It's all happening so fast.
She didn’t have too much time to wallow in thought for they were now back at her apartment building and Morgan was waiting on her so they could go inside.

“Michael, we’ll be back in about two or three hours.” Kira was saying. “We’re going to run and get more boxes and then run by my work. Oh, and I have to run to the post office too.”
“Ok.” Michael grinned. “I’ll just hang out here and pack.”
“Sounds like a plan.” Morgan chimed in. She glanced at her watch. “We’d better get going.”
Kira was a little nervous. She was on her way to quit her job. “I can’t believe I’m doing this” she told Morgan.
“Are you sure you want to…..?” Morgan wanted to know.
“I’m very sure.” she said reassuringly. “I wouldn’t be doing all this if I wasn’t.”
“Ok. Just making sure. I mean…it’s a big step. You’re quitting your job….giving up your apartment….moving away from all your friends……” Morgan got quiet. And you’re doing it all for me. How’d I get so lucky?
Kira reached over and grabbed Morgan’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “It’s all going to be ok. You’ll see.”

The drive to Kira’s place of employment was a short one. They got out of the truck and Kira took a deep breath. It’s now or never. A look of determination took over her face. She smiled over at Morgan. “Let’s do it!” she said excitedly.
The entered the building to curious stares from Kira’s soon to be ex co-workers. Kira’s boss looked up from her desk. “Well, look what the cat dragged in. How’ve you been?” her boss asked casually. “Enjoy your time off?”
“Um…yeah I did actually. It was really nice.” Kira smiled warmly at Morgan. “Mickey, this is Morgan….Morgan…this is my boss Mickey.”
Morgan was checking the place out and was momentarily caught off guard. She recovered quickly. “Hi. Nice to meet you.” Something about the place just set Morgan’s teeth on edge. She was getting edgy. Can we just get this over with?
“I have something to tell you Mickey.” Kira was stating nervously. “I’m not sure how to put this.”
Mickey watched the pair. She had a feeling she knew what Kira was about to say. She glanced from Morgan’s face over to Kira’s. She smiled. She was a good employee but she sure looks happy. “What is it?” she asked gently.
Kira couldn’t believe how nervous she was. “I…um…Well I’m afraid I’m putting in my notice.” She took a steadying breath. “I’m not coming back at all actually. I’m moving….to Indiana.”
Mickey’s eyes grew big with surprise. Now this I wasn’t expecting. “Moving?”
Kira looked over at Morgan and then turned her gaze back to Mickey. “Yeah…moving.”
“When is this taking place?” Mickey wanted to know.
“Well to be honest,” Kira was blushing. “Morgan’s son Michael is at the house now loading the truck. I just came in to tell you I wouldn’t be back and to say goodbye.”
Mickey was quiet for a moment. She looked at the pair again. I hope you found your happiness kiddo. You’ve been looking for it for a long time. “Well I’m sorry we’ll be losing you…but I wish you the best of luck.”
Kira visibly relaxed. “Thanks Mickey. I really appreciate that.”
One of Kira’s co-workers came around the dividing wall between desks. “Didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but did I hear that right? You’re moving?”
Kira smiled. “Yeah Syd, you heard right, I’m in the process right now as a matter of fact. We’re leaving tomorrow.”
“Wow!” Syd exclaimed. “Well we’re sure going to miss you around here.”
“Thanks Syd.” Kira felt the sting of tears. This was harder than she thought it was going to be. She was leaving a secure job…her friends. She sighed and then looked over at Morgan, who was shifting uncomfortably. She’s worth it.
Kira made the rounds, telling everyone goodbye. When she was finished, her and Morgan made their way back outside. Kira felt wiped out.
“Hey…you ok?” Morgan wanted to know.
Kira glanced back at the building they had just exited. “Yeah, I’m ok.” She sighed. “Just seems a little weird knowing I’m not going to be coming back here.”
“Yeah, I guess that would be strange…” Morgan trailed off not knowing what else to say.
Kira took a deep breath. Well that’s it. That’s done. A part of my life over…She looked at Morgan. Another part just beginning…
“Come on. We’ve still got lots of running to do. We’d better get moving.”
With that, they climbed in the truck and headed out.

Kira stared at the screen. Another beginning……life is full of beginnings and endings isn’t it? If only we had known how short our beginning was going to be……and how devastating our ending would be…
