SAYING GOODBYE

I look into the past

And see you there

I smile, remembering the times

We once shared

The distance overtook us

Nothing could be done

I look into my life now

And see that you're gone

Hurt at first

Then resentment grew fast

I thought we had something

That would last

Nights came slow and

Tears began to fall

The long unheard of stranger

Loneliness called

I looked into my heart

And saw hate lying there

But in time I realized

That I really still cared

There was so much

That I wanted to say

But I felt it was wrong

For me to stay

Time to stop the hurting and pain

As friends we have shared

By stopping it all

I'm saying I care

I won't forget you

For my memory is strong

Maybe someday for us

It won't be so wrong

So for now, I'll sit silent

As I have always done

All by myself

But not quite alone

And as that one last tear

Escapes my eye

I'm letting you go

And saying goodbye
