Martha attended high school in Nutley, New Jersey. She was an excellent student. During these years she started her modeling career and appeared in several TV commercials and magazines. She decided to attain Bernard College in New York majoring in European and architectural history. She also met there her future husband, Andy Stewart, a law student. They got married in 1961 and four years later their only child, Alexis, was born. Soon after, Martha quit modeling and went to work as a stockbroker. During this time she learned how to run and operate a business. Again this experience proved to be invaluable later.
Martha and her husband decided to buy a house in Connecticut for their little family. They renovated it from top to bottom by themselves. They painted the interior as well as exterior. They landscaped with fruit trees, flowers, and vegetables. Stewart family still leave in this house and it occasionally appears in Martha�s shows.
It still became apparent to Martha that restoring and decorating were her true passions. She also loved cooking and baking that�s why she decided that entertaining business was perfect for her. She simply started with a small catering business and experience she gathered since she was a little girl. It all developed into millions of dollars worth enterprise including books, magazines, web pages, and television shows. She has a never-ending supply of ideas and energy and will continue to influence women all over the world. Martha Stewart is living the American dream. Born to a middle class family and now rich and successful.
