Dream

<BGSOUND src="#" loop-infinite> Sometimes it seems just a dream
This can't be real!!
My baby girl can't be gone forever!!
Maybe if I sit real still and listen
She's in the other room
Or maybe outside, waiting for me.

But other times I sit and stare
At a picture of my sweet child
And wonder, who is she?
Do I really know her?
Did I ever know her?
Is she just a dream?

I stare at toys in my living room
Movies atop the VCR
Dolls with marker and missing shoes
Water toys, and bath soap that foams
Books and games on my shelves
And wonder, why are they there?

I can listen to her voice
I can see her pictures
I can fit my hand to her painted hand
But sometimes it doesn't seem real
Like she was just something I dreamed one day
And she never really was.

Last night I dreamed of her
I saw her, at the park
I held her so tight and cried
My soul was shattered
I couldn't let her go
But today, right now, I barely remember her.

My life right now is so numb
I don't feel anything anymore
I fear the day it all returns
I fear the pain that lurks unbidden.
I know that this is still shock
I wish it would last forever.

It's been 7 months, 10 days, 2 hours and 17 minutes.
It seems such a tremendous time
But when months become years,
And time fades the pain,
Will I feel anything at all?
Sometimes it seems just a dream.
