Well.....I did end up going with my mom. We didn't stay for Soil because she couldn't handle another metal band and she HATES crowds. The opening bands were Aphasia, Hated Identity and Chain Wax. VAST was next and then Soil headlined.

Aphasia wasn't too bad. The lead singer has a very good voice. I think we can expect to hear from them in the future.

I liked Hated Identity, though mom thought it was pretty awful. They are your typical *rawwr* type metal band, but they also show promise.

Now for Chain Wax.....well....I was worried when the lead singer came out with a shaved head and Fred Durstish goatee thingie. They definitely met my expectations. I wasn't impressed. I was standing in the back of the room near some other VAST fans and we were all pretty appalled. I couldn't help but laugh when they were onstage because of the way the singer kept talking. He was taking himself VERY seriously and he definitely thought he was hard core. One song was about the 4 days he spent in jail. I was very amused because he was talking like he had been in there for 4 years.

VAST was next.  Unfortunately, the guys weren't headlining, so they had to play a short set. It took a long time for the VAST camp to set up because of some technical problems with Jon's acoustic guitar. There were problems during "I Need to Say Goodbye" but Jon and the guys handled it well. Anyway....it was a pretty good show, except for the couple of assholes yelling "Soil" and "Go home you pussies." Apparently those few didn't have the intellectual capability to handle VAST.

I was a little worried that the crowd would be hostile to VAST, but what actually happened was after the band's set, the entire crowd came over to the merch area to meet the band and get autographs. From where I was standing during the set, I didn't realize there were so many VAST fans there. The merch guy had to keep telling people to go watch Soil. I wish we could have stayed for Soil and to hang out with VAST, but mom was VERY ready to go at that point. She's quite a trooper for coming. She said that VAST was way better than the other bands and wished they had played longer.
