Stabbing Westward
Self-Titled Tour
July 4, 2001
Milwaukee, WI
Summerfest
Lazer 103 Mountain Dew Rock Stage
The band opened with "What Do I Have to Do" and, unfortunately, Christopher's mic wasn't working too well, but the problem was fixed by the end of the song. Everything sounds fine on the recording, though. I had my mom record the radio broadcast on minidisc. The mic problem must have been an amp/PA problem. They played mostly stuff from the new album with a few old tunes mixed in. I was sad they didn't play "Waking Up Beside You," but I guess you can't have everything. It was a really good show, except that I wasn't too crazy about some of Derek's guitar playing, especially on "Violent Mood Swings." His playing added a whole different feel to the song. The band had a lot of energy, especially Christopher. Toward the end of the show, someone threw a pair of panties on the stage with their address written somewhere. That's quite an invitation to an after-party! Christopher is a very funny guy. He cracked a lot of jokes while onstage. For an encore, they played a very cool extended version of "Shame." I'm very glad I finally got to see these guys in person, seeing as they have come through Milwaukee about 6-7 times and I've never been able to go.
