Quad City Live
I drove down to Iowa City and picked up Lindsay, my ever so open minded, concertgoing, adopted Iowan friend for what might now be an annual concert event. Last May we took the exact same voyage together to QC Live for a VAST show.
The concert was awsome and we both had a great time. We got there really early and hung out, talked to Eric a bit, and met the rest of the band. The all seem to be cool guys.
There were two local bands, then Jungle Rot, then Vader. The first opener was pretty....um.....interesting. The vocalist did this weird "Macabre"-like thing with his voice that was a bit disconcerting. I was relieved when their set was over. The second band was better, but they did TWO covers by the same band....can't remember who it was....it will come to me eventually and perhaps I will edit this review.
Anyway....Jungle Rot played an awsome set. The set was 15 minutes longer than the first show I saw. They had the pit going pretty nuts and Lindsay and I were sort of in the "danger zone" for getting knocked into. There was one guy next to us that was really into the set. He must have been on something because he was in his own little world, rocking out to the band, throwing his arms and legs around. I was a bit afrait of getting hit by him, because he was so out of it, but the set ended without incident.
After Jungle Rot's set, Lindsay and I moved back and sat down. Vader's set was pretty brutal. I was impressed. It was sort of funny because the singer doesn't speak the greatest English and he kept saying these really weird things on stage whenever he talked (fortunately for everyone involved, he didn't talk much). I didn't pay super close attention to their set, because there was so much other stuff going on, but it was good and the people were pleased.

Awsome! Jungle Rot was great and I wish they could have played a longer set. It was very fun to see Eric up on stage and I got to talk to him quite a bit at the show. I think my friends enjoyed themselves. Jo bought a Cattle Decapitation vinyl and Nicolette bought the new Jungle Rot CD. All the bands we saw were really good and the night was quite an experience. We didn't stay for the whole Deicide set but we saw a couple of songs. There was some CRAZY drumming going on.
During the Jungle Rot set, this kid was pushing the singer's mic stand into him, which kind of pissed off the singer because mics are metal and you can lose teeth that way. So the singer just stopped in the middle of a song, took his guitar off, and looked like he was going to pound the kid. He decided against it, fortunately, and put his guitar back on and kept singing. After the song ended, he had a few choice words to say about the kid and told the crowd to beat the shit out of him. They then pulled the kid into the pit, which was going a little nuts, and knocked him down and roughed him up a little (nothing serious, however).
Cattle Decapitation was quite interesting. Eric said that all their lyrics are about how people suck and animals are great and how we shouldn't eat animals. Apparently they are all vegetarians. The singer was totally nuts on stage and he made sounds that I didn't think were possible for the human voice to make. It was crazy. I wouldn't mind hearing more Cattle Decapitation in the future.
So my first true metal show was quite the experience. It was a lot of fun, though, and I'm really glad Nicolette and Jo came with me.
