| CHAMPION - Ruth J. Toivonen, 59 a former Champion resident who had been living in Uncasville, Conn., died late Wednesday night at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford, Conn., where she was a patient for a week. She was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Champion, a daughter of Joseph and Mae Dishneau. She married Arnold Toivonen on Aug 3 1946, in Milwaukee, Wis. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Arnold of Stonineton, Conn. and William of Uncasville; three brothers, Lawrence and Harold Hamel of Champion and Joseph Hamel of Michigamme; a sister, Mary Carr of Washington, D.C.; a half-brother, Alfred Plattenburg of Ishpeming; a stepsister, Eva Rochon of Negaunee; and two grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Nielan and Sons Funeral Home in New London, Conn. A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. at St John's Church in Uncasville. Burial will be in the Mapleville Cemetery, Norwich, Conn. Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Broad St., New London, Conn.; or the Connecticut Hospice, Branford, Conn. |
