| RUMELY - William V. Parkkila, 76, of Sundell Road, Rumely, died at 4 p.m. Friday, March 24, 1995, at Marquette General Hospital after a several-month illness. He was born July 2 1918 in Eben Junction to Daniel and Ida (Paananen) Parkkila. He attended the Ferguson School near Eben. He was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church of Trenary. He married Agnes Caine in Maquette on May 13, 1944. He worked for Lindberg Construction Co . in Marquette for several years as a general laborer. He then worked for Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. in the Mather B mine as a stopescraper for 27 years, retiring in 1978. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1941 to 1943. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the union representing CCI miners. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Agnes of Sundell; a daughter, Beverly Edwards of Perkins; a son William Parkkila of Osaka, Japan; four grandchildren; two brothers Eino Parkkila of Sundell and Art of Eben; and a sister, Mrs. Aune (Harold) Nyman of Harvey. He was prededed in death by a brother Urho Parkkila; a sister Toini Juntunen; his parents; and a granddaughter, Traci Edwards. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be at a later date. Burial will be in Munising Pine Grove Cemetery. |
