| Michigamme Man dies when fire guts house |
| MICHIGMME - State plice fire marshals are investigating the cause of a blaze Saturday which claimed the life of a Michigamme man and gutted his home. Angus John Howe, 71, was pronounced dead on arrival at Bell Memorial Hospital in Ishpeming, after his story and a half frame house, located on Main St., caught fire about 5:30 p.m. and burned. Volunteer firemen from Michigamme, Champion and Spurr Township responded to the call and remained at the site until nearly midnight, before extinguishing the blaze. No estimate of damage was available. The death was the fourth fire fatality in Marquette County this year. Born July 31, 1902, in Michigamme, Mr. Howe worked for the Soo Line Railroad as a section hand for several years, retiring in 1963. He is survived by two brothers, Wesley and Russell, Michigamme; two sisters, Mrs. Vertin (Alice) Boyer and Mrs. Lottie Remortal, Marquette, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10 Tuesday morning in St Agnes' Catholic Church here, Rev. Wayne Marcotte officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Michigamme. Pallbearers will be Henry and Leo Paquette, Edward Wells, Ole Olson, Joseph and Edward Verville. Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home in Ishpeming from 7 to 9 tonight. Liturgical services will be conducted there at 8. |
