Ann Hicks
  MARQUETTE - Mrs. Ann Wittler Hicks, 85, of 316 Alger St., Marquette, died at her home Thursday after an illness of several years.
   Mrs. Hicks was born April 5, 1907 in Marquette to the late Anna and Carl Wittler and was a life-long resident of the area.
   She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and Northern Michigan University and did graduate work at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
She taught home economics to upper grades at the AuTrain Elementary School for several years, and at the Marquette Graveraet Middle School for 31 years.  She was also a dean of girls and counselor.
   Following her retirement from teaching, she served as dietitian at the Bay Cliff Camp during the summer seasons and did volunteer work at Marquette General Hospital.  She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Senior Choir for many years.  She was also a member of the Alpha Xi Delta national sorority and a past member of the American Association of University women.
   She is survived by a daughter, Marcia A. (Mrs. Donald) Hakala of Commerce, Texas; a granddaughter,; Micol (Mrs. Todd) Knipp of Paul's Valley, Okla.; two grandsons, Dwight Hakala of Marquette and Carl Hicks of Holland, Mich.; a great-granddaughter, Tiffany Knipp; a niece, a nephew and sever cousins.
   She was preceded in death by a son, James E. Hicks.
   Funeral services will be held at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home in Marquette at 12:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Peter Vorhes officiating.  Fisitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services.
   Pallbearers will be Fred Rydholm, Allen Maynard, Robert Bureau, William Brady, Paul Berg and Donald Bowers.
   The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
