| Iron Ore, Ishpeming Week of November 4, 1905 Death of Jacob Dompiere |
| The earthly career of one of Ishpemings oldest residents closed yesterday noon with the death of Jacob Dompiere which occurred at his late home on south second street. He (Mr. Dompiere) had been a sufferer from Dropsy for several years and for the past few months had failed rapidly. Deceased came to this country over 50 years ago and was prominent in the early development of this section assisting in the opening of several of the important mines of this district. He was employed by the Lake Superior Iron Co for a number of years, his descriptions of the hardships experienced by the pioneers of this region were graphic. It was his delight to relate the trials and tribulations of the early settlers and he had the dates of all prominent events at his command. Mr. Dompiere was 74 years of age and is survived by five adult children, Mrs. Derouin of Green Bay, Jennie and Elwilder of this city and two sons, Clofford and Wilfred who reside here. He was a member of the local French Canadian Society under whose auspices the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from St. Joseph's church. |
