| ISHPEMIMG - Services for Francis J. Dishnow, 48, Ishpeming superintendent of schools who died Tuesday, will be held in St John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 Friday morning (not Saturday as was originally announced). All Ishpeming schools will be closed all day Friday in memory of Mr. Dishnow. Rt. Rev. Msgr. David P. Spelgatti will intone the Mass and burial will take place in Ishpeming Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Evert Austin, Allan Olds, Richard Northey, Paul Kotila, Don Ryan, Edward Thomas, Douglas Brown, John Ohlson, William Trebilcock, Clyde Pohlman, Archie Narorxky, Petter Wahlman, Robert Jacobson, Joseph Tatrault, Peter Mariette, James Manty, Steve Coron, Dennis Tresidder and Bernhardt Peterson.. Active pallbearers will be Alvern, Ronald, Anthony, Paul and Jay Dishnow and Pat Hosey. Friends may call at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home from 6 to 10 tonight. | Francis J. Dishnow, 48, Dies; Ishpeming School Superintendent 3 Years |
| ISHPEMING - Francis J. Dishnow, 336 South Second St., superintendent of the Ishpeming School District, died, apparently of a heart attack, early Tuesday in St. Luke's Hospital, Marquette. He was 48. Born March 23 1923, in Michigamme, Mr. Dishnow graduated from Michigamme High School in 1940 and took under-graduate courses at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, and Northern Michigan University, Marquette. He recieved a bachelor's degree from NMU in 1947 and a master's degree from Stout State College, Menominee Wis., in 1952. Ishpeming Principal In 1964 He taught school for 16 years in Trenary, Ishpeming and Racine, Wis. He became principal at the Ishpeming High School in 1964 and succeeded William G. Peterson as superintendent of the Ishpeming School District in August of 1969. Mr. Dishnow had served as president of the Michigan Education Association's Region 17 Council, president of the Marquette-Alger County MEA district and president of the Ishpeming Teachers Association. He also had served as president and vice president of the Upper Penninsula Association of Secondary School Principals and president of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Holy Name Society and was past president of the church's board of education. Initiated Ishpeming Program In 1961, Mr. Dishnow initiated a carpenter-millwright apprenticeship training program in Ishpeming and served as its coordinator for three years. At one time he was supervisor of the industrial education program in the Ishpeming school system. He also taught adults in the Michigan vocational rehabilitation program. He was a member of the Michigan and National Associations of Secondary School Principals, Eplsilon Phi Tau International honorary fraternity, Upper Great Lakes Teacher Education Council and the Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve; four daughters, Mrs Jerre (Victoria) Lewis, Roscommon, and Pamela, Patricia and Anne, at home; a son, Peter, at home; four brothers, Alvern and Ronald of Michigamme, Anthony of Oak Park and Paul of Iron Mountain and three sisters, Mrs Emerald Hosey and Mrs Clifford (Ursula) Decaire, both of Ishpeming, and Mrd Henry (Mary) LaForrest, Champion. Funeral Saturday Services will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evanagelist Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. David P. Spalgetti officating, Burial will be in Ishpeming cemetery. Liturgical services will be held Thursday night at 8 in the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday. A memorial fund will be established at St. John's Church in Mr. Dishnow's name. |
