WA SCW/SV Infinity Expert pistol 6 inch |
| |
The last SV I bought was the Xcelerator HyBrid, my sixth SV (and an SV is an SV is an SV). I thought thats it my last SV.
I even didnt like it that much as the grip is not too comfortable in my small hands unlike the Berettas that I find friendlier.
But, alas, here comes a good friend, shows me his SV Infinity Expert 5in and I did well ignoring the new gbb well at least for almost a week when after which I called and asked where he bought the dang SV that made me sleepless for a while.
It was last Sunday lunch time when I got the Expert 6in.

Initial Impressions
I havent had a WA for a while and it seems that WA (or is it WA/SCW - whatever) has finally decided to sustain getting out of the brown (or khaki) corrugated box syndrome. I guess the brown box would have a more distinct appeal as most other manufacturers use colorful boxes. The brown box distinguished it outright as a WA or Western Arms gbb the more expensive kind. (And I complained last time of the ordinary looking box talk about human behavior eh.)
The box was opened and as usual, I found the plastic wrapped gbb, manual and other paper stuff, a small plastic for bbs, two allen wrenches and 3 spare triggers to suit my whim. The same box is used for the 5in and distinguished only where the ASGK sticker is placed.

The guy who brought the gbb, I noted, was a bit hurried (almost lunchtime), and he demoed / tested the gbb and didnt stay any longer than whats needed. I didnt mind as I was more engrossed in feeling the newness of this gbb, mentally comparing whats different in it vs the other SVs, etc.
|
 |
The muzzle was not the only part gold-tipped. The whole outer barrel was in gold finish and even the ejection port showed part of it etched with INFINITY 45 ACP.
|
| |
The slides top was not an curved but instead formed two angles or is three-sided. The top is flat and horizontally striped while the sides are in plain black. (See pix. Am out of words to describe it.) This feature is highly pronounced in the 6in model as I hardly noticed it last time in the 5in. |
 |

The mags bb throat is well tapered, made of plastic, supposedly to allow smoother feeding. The older mags do not have this plastic part and have been reported to cause misfeeding when still unpolished. However, the hicap mags are highly compatible.
(The mags from the older SV 3.9 and 4.3 are a bit short and cant be used. Some pix Ive seen though show that these mags may fit the Expert 4.3, shorter of course and does not have the free-form serration towards the front end of the slide.)
|

The grip strayed away from the usual SV diagonally checkered design (WA calls it Scott type) and thus is a bit smaller. Even the diamond outline was no longer present. |

Instead, the grip is now a refined finish thing that need gripping the gbb well to prevent potential slippage. My hands hardly sweat so this shouldnt be a problem for me. |
|
| |
The longer mags can be used though on the 3.9 and 4.3 except that it protrudes a little.

The sight is called MMC style, and as usual, both sights are well marked with the friendly white dots. |
It has two free-form serrations. While almost all gbbs would only have this serration towards the backend of the slide to assist in pulling the slide, the Expert 6in has this free-form serration also towards the front end, used generally to push the slide back.
And heres one that WA definitely improved on. There is no slight play in the hammer that last time I said was imminent in all WAs except in the M1934. It will not make the gbb perform less but for a pricey unit, I expect that there should be the least or nil irritants. WA must be reading FAS also.
Thats enough for the obvious and highly visible plus factors. There could still be others but maybe transparent to an ordinary user like me. I compared it mostly with the 6in xcelerator hybrid (a not so old model) and that translates to WA trying harder to satisfy buyers. If I say more, WA might recall and re-price the unit.

Test Firing
Versus the other SV other models, the mag contained 33+1 bbs. Big deal? Maybe but the extra bbs may spell an opponent shouting hit or scoring better on the target boards.
I loaded gas from a newly refilled r134 can and fired at a coke can. I expected to puncture the bottom but didnt and instead had very visible dents only. (A website says it goes 345 fps and thus this is not necessarily correct. I double checked the website to find that it is listed to use r134 / top gas. I can only conclude thus that it fires 345 fps maybe if top gas were used.)
Nevertheless, my attempt on the cans side made a wide slit but no penetration at the opposite side.

 |
I have a shorter range in my present house or I could have gone to the backyard for at least a 60-80ft (est) target but decided against that as its a bit windy. Anyhow, from 20 max ft, it made a 1.75-inch grouping from 3 shots while I held the gbb in a not so stable back rest of an armchair. I used .2 excel bbs for this purpose.

Summary
Overall, Id rate the 6in Expert as something to have, somethings different from the former SVs.
The performance is generally similar to the 6in Xcelerator, hybrid or the prokillers that have hidden longer inner barrels. Although, the Expert hadnt shown any misfeed problems but so does the other SVs provided I polish the mag bb channels.
Is it durable? Later - besides this is the least of my worries. If it breaks, RP does not have a shortage of gunsmiths and spare parts can either be ordered or metal parts fabricated locally.
Is it reliable? If it breaks, use a backup. After all, even the best of products break, often due to wear and tear and this can hardly be quantified. (My primary pc broke down but didnt keep me away from the internet as I have a backup.) Whats more important is how fast I can recover from an incident.
|
| |
Upgradeability? Aside from the tweaking that can be done locally without having to spend for an arm and a leg, the 6in Expert can have its slide replaced with a metal type from PGC, alum, silver or black and intended for the Expert 6in.
Other 6in slides are available but may require some work for these to fit the Expert 6. Other internals maybe those available also for other SVs.

Is it a good buy? Id definitely feel sorry if WA later comes out with a chrome model.
