I know the image is kinda large in terms of size and resolution but when I have more time I'll downsize it and change the format.
Here's a summary of the cleanup operation: When I opened it up, most of the liquid had drained out already and what was left was the little bit sticking to the PCB. I quickly cleaned out the remaining liquid and used alcohol to get rid of the stickiness. I lifted the board out and proceeded to clean the front side of it. Once I got the front cover out, I just ran it under a tap and dried with tissues and cotton buds. Washed the buttons and left them to dry. Cleaned the screen, did my best with the place where you insert games cartridges and cleared the mold(?) on the right side. It can be seen on the picture. It looks like white fluffy stuff. After cleaning, I found that some solder points especially the parts that were covered by mold were coroded and became black.
After leaving it to dry, I re-assembled the console and put a game in to play. As soon as I inserted the battery, I had a surprise! Not good news... but then... not bad news either. The console came on. I was happy! After a 5 min test, I turned the thing off but thats where I realised something was wrong! It turned off for a second and then came back on. I figured I hadn't accidentally pressed the On button when I put the battery in for the first time after cleaning.
I decided to leave it alone to dry for a day before trying again. I removed everything (cart. batt. etc.) and tried the next day, still no luck. I repeated it again and tried the next day and (yay for me) it didn't turn on till I pressed the power button. Tried it again the next day just to make sure but the same thing as cleaning day. Next day was fine again though.
Today, about 1 month later, it's still fine. I hope nothing like that ever happens again. Hey, maybe if it's just one of those funny weird days, I may just mail the F&N company which makes the 100+ drink and ask them to make their cans a little thicker...
