Both of my babies were rescues from the local SPCA. Having worked there for a period of time, it was incredibly difficult seeing so many animals every day & knowing I couldn't have them all! What was worse was seeing a dog or cat that you had a particularly strong bond with leave - it was really bittersweet - at least you knew they'd be much happier in a loving home. But, as with most animal lovers, my love for animals got the best of me! *haha* When I came across both of my kitties as kittens, I just knew they had to be mine!

{ notice his diamond-shaped irises - isn't that unique? }

Kahlua was my first encounter with my "must have" moods! *ha* He wasn't exactly a young kitten when I saw him - he was in that gangly adolescent stage - but freakin' adorable nonetheless! He had come in as a stray & had a broken leg. I, of course, got to name him (making matters worse). He just had beautiful markings & was such a doll - meowing at me everytime I walked by his cage. Well, of course nursing him back to health didn't help the situation either! But, I also knew I'd probably never get to have him. You see, my fiance isn't what you call a "cat person." Matter of fact, he's said he hates cats on more than one occasion (which I don't understand - how can you hate a cat)?! Thankfully I had a lot of time to win him over. *haha* With Kahlua's broken leg, he wasn't allowed to be put up for adoption until he was 100% healed. Well, regardless of whether or not Mike wanted a cat in the house, his heart is big enough to know how much I love them... and he ended up giving in. He basically said, "I don't care, I know it'll make you happy!" Everybody say, AWWWWWW!!! *hehe* And thus, when I was given the OK that he was ready to be put up for adoption, I "knabbed" him. It's now been about two years & he's just great. The sweetest cat you could ever ask for! If you're lying on the couch, he's on your chest just purrin' away. I love him! I think he may have some Maine Coon in his background - he's a big boy & look at those curly hairs within his ears!

:: Caliber ::
~1.5y/o grey/white tabby Domestic Long Hair (neutered male)

{ he's just SO handsome - look @ those eyes! }

Caliber was one of those "once-in-a-lifetime" cats. A little girl's dream, you might say. He's just gorgeous with his lovely silver-grey & white coat. When I first laid eyes on him, I was absolutely smitten & knew he must be mine! He was such a little ball of fluff! And he had the most outrageous green eyes in contrast to his coat color - so handsome! When he came into the SPCA, I guess the owner of his mother wasn't expecting kittens (*sighs* I can't imagine why? Neuter/spay your animals... sheesh, people annoy me)! And I guess the person that brought them into us had her eye on Caliber too. That scared me, because I knew - even though I worked there, whoever put in an application first had "first dibs," so to speak. Well, thankfully, the application fell through & I was next in line. It was the greatest day! My manager came to me & said, "Are you still interested in this little guy, the application on him fell through?! Would you like to take him home today?" Well, my heart jumped in my throat I was so excited! And a little worried - I hadn't really discussed things with my fiance yet. But, I also knew - if I waited, this boy would be gone for sure. So, I said of course & took my boy home. It took Mike a little bit to get used to Caliber, but now he loves him (to tell you the truth, I think he's his favorite). He's such a quirky kitty & so very jumpy! If you stomp your foot for some reason, he's jumping 3 feet into the air! *ha* And he has the greatest little voice you'd ever hear on a cat - love it! After almost a year with this precious little soul, I'm happy I listened to my gut on that day. The next day, my manager let me know that there were several other people interested in him, but that she told them he already had a home. Fate? I like to think so. I guess when you work with animals for as long as her, you begin to get a sixth-sense for where the animals belong. Soooo many thanks to her - I wouldn't trade Caliber for the world!!
